After the euphoria of Jenny Jones’ bronze medal on Sunday, another of Team GB’s biggest medal prospects take to the ice as the curling competitions begin on day three at Sochi 2014.
Jones claimed Great Britain’s first ever Olympic medal on the snow with a dramatic bronze in the women’s snowboard slopestyle competition.
Her remarkable performance should act as further inspiration for every Team GB athlete at the Games and none more so than for Great Britain’s curlers and short track speed skaters, both with relatively strong medal chances.
They begin their Olympic campaigns on Monday, though you will need to wake up pretty early to Great Britain’s men in action in their first match of the curling competition.
Skipped by David Murdoch, the world bronze medallists begin the round-robin phase against host nation Russia, returning later in the day to face Sweden.
Britain’s women curlers, led again by Eve Muirhead, face Sweden, the team they beat to win last year’s world championship title, in their first group game.
Staying on the Olympic Park and the short track speed skating competitions begin at the Iceberg Skating Palace.
Jack Whelbourne is the best British medal prospect for the men, though South Korea and Canada are expected to be the dominant forces, while Elise Christie and Charlotte Gilmartin go in the heats of the women’s 500m.
Also today in Sochi, the second event in alpine skiing takes place with the women’s super-combined, where Germany’s defending world and Olympic champion Maria Hofl-Riesch is likely to be the athlete to watch in this event.
To end the day’s events Canadian duo Mikael Kingsbury and defending Olympic champion Alex Bilodeau start as strong favourites in the freestyle skiing moguls competition under the floodlights in the mountain cluster.

The third day’s play at Sochi begins at the earlier time of 5.00am on BBC Two as the curling competitions get underway.
Great Britain’s men’s and women’s curling teams begin their Olympic campaigns as they start out on their quest for Olympic gold.
Skip David Murdoch guided his team to victory against Russia at the European Championships at the end of last year, and will be looking to get off to a winning start when the teams meet again today.
Later, Eve Muirhead and her crew have a tough opener against defending Olympic champions Sweden in a repeat of the 2013 World Championship final – which Muirhead and co won – and the more recent European Championship final, which they lost.
Today also sees the start of the exciting Short Track Speed Skating, and British medal hope Elise Christie begins her Olympic campaign in the women’s 500m heats.
China’s Wang Meng has won this event at the past two Winter Olympics, and will be the favourite again after another impressive World Cup season.
The first gold medal of the Short Track will come in the men’s 1500m, while up in the mountain resort of Rosa Khutor, the women’s Super Combined is taking place.
Consisting of both a downhill and a slalom run, it’s a test of the all-round skier and defending champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch is likely to be among those battling for the medals again.

Winter Olympics coverage switches to BBC One for an hour from 12noon with Jonathan Edwards introducing the latest action from the first morning of curling competition.
Great Britain’s women’s curling team are up against big rivals Sweden in their first group stage match at the Ice Cube.
It should be a fascinating and high-quality encounter, as Eve Muirhead and her team are the reigning world champions while Sweden are the defending Olympic champions, and recently beat Muirhead’s crew in the final of the European Championships.
There is also an round-up of all the morning session action across the Games, plus the latest features from around the Olympic Park.
Coverage switches back to BBC Two at 1.00pm for the rest of the day.

The closing stages of day three from Sochi includes the conclusion of Great Britain’s clash with Sweden in the men’s curling.
Sweden knocked Great Britain’s men out of the Vancouver Games in 2010 so David Murdoch’s team will need to be on top form today.
The men’s moguls final is shaping up to be an intriguing all-Canadian battle.
Alexandre Bilodeau is the defending champion but was edged into silver by compatriot Michael Klingsbury at the 2013 World Championships.
