ITV4 & BT Sport to simulcast BOXXER Fight Night

ITV and BT Sport will simulcast live coverage of BOXXER Fight Night on Tuesday, 10 November.

Taking place behind closed doors at the BT Sport Studios in Stratford, the event will be available to over 90% of households in the UK thanks to a landmark agreement between the two broadcasters, with ITV4 and BT Sport airing the three-hour show live from 8pm.

The event’s centrepiece is a one-night, winner-takes-all knockout tournament in the super-middleweight division, with the four participants first clashing in three-round semi-final matches and the winners then squaring off immediately for a five-round final to determine which of them walks away with the grand prize and ‘The Golden Robe’.

BOXXER debutant Zak Chelli will be joined by Manchester prospect Ben Ridings, Liverpool’s Harry Woods, who boxed for England as an amateur, and Cumbria’s Mike McGoldrick, the latter two stepping in to replace Diego Costa and Charlie Schofield, who have withdrawn due to injury and COVID-19 infection respectively.

Building up to the main action, the fight card will also showcase some of the brightest prospects on the British boxing circuit, including ‘The Punching Preacher’ Derrick Osaze, and 25-year-old Mikael Lawal, who has has battled his way from being a homeless teenager on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria to being a serious cruiserweight contender.

With the nation still under social distancing restrictions, the promoter is creating a ‘bubble’ several days ahead of the event, with all the staff and athletes being sequestered in a nearby hotel to minimise any risk of exposure to coronavirus.

The on-air presentation team for ITV4 and BT Sport’s coverage will include former champion Paulie Malignaggi, veteran boxing broadcaster Steve Bunce, Layla Anna Lee, Savage Dan and Will Perry, plus former Love Island star Jack Fincham, who was due to make his debut professional fight on the night but had to withdraw due to a broken nose from a recent car crash.

Commenting on a bumper night of boxing, BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom said:

“Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Carl Froch, Joe Calzaghe – super-middleweight is a weight class which has produced a lot of legends. It’s a very competitive division and it produces a lot of explosive fights, which you’ll see in this tournament.

“With Florian Marku and Derrick Osaze, you’ve got two of the most exciting prospects in the country right now, and of course there’s also been a lot of interest in Jack Fincham making his professional debut.

“Mikael Lawal’s life story is like something from a movie, from homeless street kid to sparring with the likes of Oleksandr Usyk and Mairis Briedis and being within touching distance of the British cruiserweight title. This is one of the best cards of the year we’re bringing to ITV4 and BT Sport next Tuesday.”

ITV4 and BT Sport’s live coverage of BOXXER Fight Night will be available to watch online via both broadcaster’s respective streaming services – ITV Hub and the BT Sport Website/App. Scroll down for further TV details and fight night card.
