Comedian, actor and sports fan Alan Davies is to present a new programme to coincide with the Winter Olympics for the BBC.
‘Alan Davies Après-Ski’ is a three-part 30-minute comedy entertainment show which will air on Friday nights at 10.00pm from February 7 on BBC Two.
The comedian will be joined by a range of domestic and international guests from the worlds of sport and comedy to take an entertaining look at The Games, in a show that will complement the BBC’s extensive coverage of the Winter Olympics in Russia.
The show will feature the action from Sochi, classic moments from past games, and will try to capture the Russian Olympic experience.
The first of three episodes airs just a few hours after the conclusion of the opening ceremony with Davies and his guests providing a comic look back at the events.
Recorded in front of a live studio audience, each episode will air later the same evening and the entire series will coincide with the beginning, middle and end of the Winter Games.
Alan Tyler, BBC Executive Editor for Entertainment Commissioning, says: “Alan is one of the best comic performers in the UK and a huge sports fan. We are delighted he is fronting what will be a fun take on a huge sporting event.”
The series will be produced by So Television, makers of BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show and The Sarah Millican Television Programme for BBC Two.
Graham Stuart, director of So Television and executive producer of the series adds: “This is a perfect vehicle for Alan and we look forward to delivering an alternative perspective on the Winter Games.”
BBC Two’s new Winter Olympics comedy series follows the success of Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’, a nightly entertainment show which originally aired during the London 2012 Paralympics.
Presented by Adam Hills, Josh Widdecombe and Alex Brooker, the series was so well received by viewers that Channel 4 commissioned for two further series in a regular weekly slot.
‘The Last Leg’ will return for a fourth series to coincide with Channel 4’s coverage of the Sochi Winter Paralympics in March.
The 2014 Winter Olympics is being broadcast exclusively live on the BBC with comprehensive daily coverage on TV, radio and online.
