BBC Sport and Eurosport will have extensive round-the-clock coverage of day 12 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

SOTB’s Olympics TV guides will take you through all the key action and list the must-see moments every day throughout the Games.

A total of 22 Olympic sporting disciplines are in action on Wednesday and 17 more gold medals are set to be won. Here is a summary of the best action to look out for:

MARATHON SWIMMING: Day 12 gets underway nice and early with the the women’s 10km race, taking place at 6.30am local time to avoid the intense summer heat. Alice Dearing competes for Team GB and in doing so will become the first black woman to swim for Britain at the Olympics.

ATHLETICS: The heptathlon gets underway at the Olympic Stadium, with world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who finished sixth in Rio, starting quest for Tokyo glory with the 100m hurdles. Three more disciplines follow, including the high jump, where Johnson-Thompson is at her strongest, plus the shot put and 200m.

Today’s key finals on the track include the women’s 400m hurdles, men’s 800m, women’s 3,000m steeplechase and men’s 200m, while in the field the men’s hammer champion will be crowned.

SKATEBOARDING: Sky Brown, Great Britain’s youngest summer Olympian at just 13-years-old, competes in the Park competition, an event in which she is a world bronze medallist. A year after suffering serious injuries in a horrific training accident, can she finish on the podium in the sport’s first Olympic appearance?

HOCKEY: It’s semi-finals day at the Oi Hockey Stadium in the women’s competition. Reigning Olympic champions Great Britain face the Netherlands once more, in a repeat of their memorable gold medal match from Rio 2016, which gets underway at 2.30am.

SAILING: Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark took 470-class sailing silver in London 2021, then went one better in Rio 2016. Mills won the world title with new partner Eilidh McIntyre in 2019 and will be hoping to bring home another Olympic gold in their medal race.

CYCLING: Today’s solitary final in the velodrome is the men’s team pursuit. Ed Clancy, who has helped Great Britain to Olympic pursuit gold at the past three Games, is back in the team for Tokyo. Denmark won the last world title in a world record time, while Australia are perennial contenders.

EQUESTRIAN: Expect more tension and drama at the Equestrian Park as the individual show jumping final takes place, with Britain’s Ben Maher hoping to emulate his now retired compatriot Nick Skelton, who at the age of 58 at Rio 2016 became the first ever Briton to win individual showjumping gold at the Olympics.

BOXING: There’s more British interest in today’s boxing bouts as Ben Whittaker takes on Cuba’s Arlen Lopez in the men’s light-heavyweight gold medal contest, while Frazer Clarkes fights in the semi-finals of the men’s super-heavyweight division.

SPORT CLIMBING: Team GB has one chance of winning a medal in sport climbing, which is making its Olympic debut. World bronze medallist Shauna Coxsey competes in the women’s combined event.

Presenter: JJ Chalmers

World champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson gets underway in the heptathlon, while 13-year-old skateboarder Sky Brown becomes Britain’s youngest summer Olympian.

Johnson-Thompson’s battle with reigning champion Nafi Thiam promises to be one of the more memorable duels at the Olympic Stadium if both are fully fit. Liverpudlian Johnson-Thompson set a personal best score to defeat Thiam, who was nursing an elbow problem.

Brown suffered a horrific fall last year which left her with multiple skull fractures and a broken arm, but she has made a full recovery and will start among the favourites for skateboarding’s park event, having earned world bronze in 2019. In qualifying, she must impress the judges with a series of mid-air tricks, with a top-eight finish needed to reach the final.

There is also coverage of the women’s hockey semi-final between the Netherlands and defending Olympic champions Great Britain.

Britain are reigning champions in the men’s team pursuit, although Australia have been the form side more recently. Another British defending champion, Jason Kenny, will be looking to make serene progress through the early rounds of the men’s sprint.

At the Olympic Stadium, world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson competes in the heptathlon shot put, Laura Muir vies for a place in the women’s 1500m final and it’s the women’s 200m medal ceremony – will it be a coronation for Dina Asher-Smith?

Champions are crowned in the men’s 200m and 800m at Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium and also in individual showjumping at the nearby Equestrian Park.

Showman sprinter Noah Lyles won the 200m world title in 2019 and will be favourite to add the Olympic crown. There could be British interest in both track races, with sprinters Adam Gemili and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and 800m runner Kyle Langford just finishing out of the medals in previous global finals.

Nick Skelton became the second oldest British Olympic champion with individual show jumping gold in Rio. Following his retirement, can the in-form Ben Maher and his superstar horse Explosion W keep the British flag flying?
