Harry’s Heroes: Euro Having A Laugh this week on ITV

Harry’s Heroes returns to ITV for a second series and this time they’re going on a European adventure.

‘Harry’s Heroes: Euro Having A Laugh’ follows Harry Redknapp as he takes his team of England Legends on a European tour – a physical and emotional rollercoaster building up to a re-match with a team of German international legends, this time on their home soil.

Following last year’s victory against Germany at the climax of the original 2019 series – Harry’s Heroes: The Full English – can the lads go one better and win abroad?

Joining Harry again as his assistant manager is Liverpool legend John Barnes, and the team is once more made up of a who’s who of former England internationals, including David Seaman, Paul Merson, Matt Le Tissier, Rob Lee, Ray Parlour, Lee Sharpe, Mark Chamberlain, Mark Wright, Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, and new a new squad member in Aston Villa’s Lee Hendrie, with a few surprise additions along the way as well.

Whilst on tour in the build up to the showdown with their former foes our welltravelled international legends play matches against tough opponents in France and Italy in preparation.

In each country the squad make a valiant attempt at sampling the different cultures and cuisine with mixed results.

Despite being on a health kick, the lads on tour temptations mean there are mishaps and surprises along the way that usually leave everyone in fits of laughter and result in a few who get read the riot act! One of the surprises Harry has for the team along the way is a 5-a-side game with difference.

Harry sets up a match versus Paris’ premiere naturist football team who are not afraid to put in a tackle and definitely surprise the lads with their ball skills.

As well as improving their fitness and winning games, their goals equally lie off the pitch. Amid the Premier League banter, we see emotions laid bare in some dramatic scenes with friendships tested as the lads try to support each other in facing up to life’s challenges of maintaining mental wellness and physical health.

Last year, Harry’s Heroes lost nearly eight stone between them and Harry’s hopeful that they’ve kept it up – but after a weigh in with fitness coach Luke Worthington, nothing could be further from the truth. And it gets worse, as Razor, who had a heart scare last year, reveals he’s been to see a cardiologist and has been told he can’t exercise and needs to have a procedure on his heart.

Harry’s determined to get the boys back in shape for the grudge match against Germany, so he’s organised a big game in France against FC Metz. Their team, who remain beaten, features David and Ray’s old Arsenal teammate Robert Pires.

The squad are going to have to pull out all the stops, especially seeing as their star striker Robbie Fowler is currently managing a team in Australia. Robbie promises to organise a great forward for the team and he delivers in style, in the form of England and Liverpool’s legendary striker Michael Owen. Can he help save the day?

Commenting on taking his England legends team on tour for a second series, Harry Redknapp said:

“It was fantastic, just being round the lads, all great players, great characters, for me now being retired, to spend some time with lads like that it makes my day.

“I would be lying if I said they all came and got super fit, because they didn’t. I probably think in the first series they got fitter.

“Matt probably lost more weight in the first series, Razor lost about the same, which was nil. But it was great because we had the three trips, France, Italy, and then onto Germany, the more time I could spend with them, the more enjoyable it was, I just loved every minute of it.”

Harry’s team have been challenged to a rematch against the German legends team, but this time, its on their home soil. Harry and John decide to make a tour of it – with this bunch of booze and burger loving lads, what could possibly go wrong?

MONDAY 18th MAY

The tour kicks off in France. John Barnes is in charge of the itinerary and he’s booked the team into a self-catering hotel in the quiet medieval town of Provins.

Harry wants the lads to be on a detox and cook their own healthy food, but they don’t even get through the first night without hitting the beers and ending up at the curry House. Harry’s not happy.

TUESDAY 19th MAY

The second leg of the Tour takes the Boys to Italy, where they’re holing up at a traditional Palazzo in Florence.

Assistant Manager John Barnes thinks the Lads need a bit of culture so sends them off sightseeing to take in The Ponte Vecchio and Michaelangelo’s David. It’s not quite their cup of tea so it’s not long before some of the boys find a bar and Harry finds an ice cream.

WEDNESDAY 20th MAY

It’s the final leg of the Tour in Germany. And there’s only a few days for Harry and John to get the team ready to take on our arch rivals in their own back yard.

After checking into their Hotel in the Bavarian Alps, Harry receives the German Team Sheet – and it’s not a pretty read. This year’s team has got over 500 caps and they’ve brought in a Secret Weapon in the form of Thomas Hassler.

With over 100 caps of his own, Hassler featured in the winning German squads of the World Cup in 1990 and the Euros in 1996. Harry’s team are going to have to step up their game big time!
