Six more Olympic champions will be crowned in Sochi as the 2014 Winter Games enters its fifth day of competition live on BBC Sport.
Headlining the day’s action is the women’s downhill in the mountain cluster and in the absence of America’s skiing superstar Lindsey Vonn, who will shine on the Sochi slopes?
Olympic champion Vonn pulled out of the 2014 Winter Games at the beginning of the year as her attempt to overcome a succession of injuries, including recovering from a broken leg at last year’s World Championships, failed.
In Vonn’s absence, the fight for medals in the women’s downhill is expected to be wide open contest.
Germany’s Maria Hofl-Riesch has two World Cup victories to her name this season, with Austrian 2010 bronze medallist Elisabeth Gorgl and Switzerland’s Marianne Kaufmann-Abderhalden also recent winners, while Slovenia’s Tina Maze could also feature.
Great Britain’s only representative in women’s alpine skiing will also be competing as Chemmy Alcott aims to make a significant impression having acquainted herself with the course in the super-combined on Monday.
The best pairs figure skaters in the world take to the ice in the evening as the pairs competition reaches an exciting climax and is likely to star Russian home favourites Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov.
Volosozhar switched from Ukraine after Vancouver 2010 to team up with Trankov and the pair won world gold last year in the World Championships in Canada.
They set a world-record points total in October and should have huge partisan support inside the arena for an event in which Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy could be their closest rivals for gold.
Also on Wednesday, the unique Nordic Combined competitions begin. This sport combines two events – cross country skiing and ski jumping.
Today sees the Individual Gundersen competition take place, featuring a normal hill jump and 10km cross country, and watch out for Germany’s Eric Frenzel, the overall World Cup series champion, who won large hill gold at Vancouver 2010.
Elsewhere, the men’s ice hockey competition kicks off with two matches in the evening, while Great Britain’s curlers continue in their quest for Olympic glory with tough matches against Canada for the women and Switzerland for the men.

Day four of Sochi 2014 begins on BBC Two at 6.45am featuring action from four different disciplines.
The morning’s action includes the women’s downhill, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the Games, though defending champion Lindsey Vonn will not be in Sochi after having to pull out of the Games due to injury.
There is also live action from the curling where Great Britain’s women face Canada in what should be a close contest.
The Canadians ended Eve Muirhead’s medal hopes in Vancouver 2010, although the Scot had the upper hand in the semi-finals of the World Championships in 2013.
Coverage switches to BBC One at 11.30am (see below).

Coverage returns to BBC Two for the rest of the afternoon at 1.00pm as Jonathan Edwards introduces an action-packed afternoon of events in Sochi.
The USA and Canada, the two powerhouses in women’s Olympic ice hockey, meet at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
The Americans won the inaugural Olympic event in Nagano in 1998, but Canada have won gold at the past three Games, and beat the USA in the final in 2010.
David Murdoch will be leading the GB team as they face Switzerland in the latest match in the curling round-robin stages.
There is also live coverage of the men’s 1,000m speedskating final, where American Shani Davis is looking for a third consecutive Olympic gold.
Plus action from the Nordic combined, a sport in which athletes compete in both cross-country skiing and ski jumping.

Figure Skating, Luge, Curling and Snowboarding will be on BBC Two’s evening menu as day four concludes with Clare Balding.
It is the conclusion of the pairs event in figure skating, where the local spectators at the Iceberg Skating Palace will be hoping that Russians Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov can clinch gold.
There is also live action from the curling, where Britain’s David Murdoch and his men are playing Switzerland.
Meanwhile, up in the mountains at the Sanki Sliding Centre, it is the conclusion of the luge doubles.
Germany have won gold at nine of the 14 Olympics where this event has been held, but it is 12 years since they were last on top of the podium.
However, their team in Sochi will include world champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who will be confident of ending that drought.
Also look out for action from the women’s snowboard halfpipe final after 5.30pm.
