It’s women’s day at the Games with several of the biggest titles in winter women’s sports reaching their conclusion on day 13 in Sochi.
Starting with Ice Hockey, defending Olympic women’s champions Canada take on the United States once again in what will be a hugely intense battle for gold.
Canada’s women caused controversy in 2010 when they returned to the ice wielding champagne, beer and cigars in celebration after their victory over the Americans.
However, the US overpowered Canada 3-2 in last year’s World Championships – once again on Canadian ice in Ottawa – to establish their credentials for Sochi 2014.
At the same time as the ice hockey, the final competitive action of the 2014 Olympic figure skating competition takes place with the women’s free skate.
South Korea’s Yuna Kim is the favourite for Olympic gold despite missing some of the 2013-14 Grand Prix season through injury, with Japan’s Mao Asada another leading candidate, while Russian 15-year-old Julia Lipnitskaia should also impress.
Completing a triple of finals in the evening will be the women’s ski halfpipe competition.
American skier Maddie Bowman, an X Games champion, and Switzerland’s world champion Virginie Faivre will be contenders for gold.
Sadly 18-year-old Rowan Cheshire, who became the first British woman to win a halfpipe World Cup title when she triumphed in Calgary one month before the Games, has withdrawn from the event as she recovers from a serious crash in training that left her unconscious.
The late Canadian freeskier Sarah Burke, who died after a training crash in early 2012, will be held in the memory of competitors in Sochi.
Finally, Great Britain’s women curlers, led by Eve Muirhead, will be in the bronze medal match in the morning at the Ice Cube, starting at 8.30am.
They face Switzerland in the battle for bronze and will hope to secure Team GB’s third medal of the Games so far.
The final itself in the afternoon will be between Canada, who beat GB in the semi-finals, against Sweden, who triumphed over the same opposition on their home turf in Vancouver four years ago.

There is also action from the bronze medal play-offs in both the women’s curling (Great Britain v Switzerland) and the women’s ice hockey, as well as coverage of the men’s team event in the Nordic combined.

This afternoon’s coverage on BBC Two is entirely dedicated to the gold medal match in the women’s curling competition.
Twelve years ago in Salt Lake City, nearly six million UK television viewers stayed up late at night to watch Rhona Martin guide her GB team to a famous 4-3 victory over Switzerland after an incredibly tense and dramatic Olympic final.
Eve Muirhead leads the British team – coached by Martin – in Sochi and, as the reigning world champion, she will be desperate to be in this final.
