Is day 14 of the London 2012 Olympic Games redemption day for Britain’s BMX rider Shanaze Reade, four years after her disaster in Bejing?
Reade crashed out of the 2008 Olympic final, which she started as the hot favourite. A world champion since then, she now takes to her home course on the Olympic Park looking to make up for that lost time.
She qualified fifth fastest for the semi-finals, with the final at 4.30pm. Australia’s Caroline Buchanan was the fastest qualifier.
Fellow Briton Liam Phillips was impressive in making quick progress to the semi-finals and also harbours hopes of a medal in the men’s final. Dutchman Raymon van der Biezen won all his qualifying heats.
Reade is not the only one with a point to prove.
Lutalo Muhammad, who came through a weeks-long and much-publicised selection dispute at the expense of Aaron Cook, fights in the men’s -80kg Olympic taekwondo category.
Also fighting today is world champion Sarah Stevenson, who was one of the stories of the Games four years ago when she won bronze after a scoring error was overturned.
In the last 18 months she has lost both her parents to terminal illness, won the world title and overcome a serious knee injury.
In sailing, Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell are guaranteed silver and hope to overhaul Australia’s Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page for gold in the medal race (12pm), which was postponed on Thursday because of light winds.
That sets up a potential day of double gold for Britain’s sailors, with Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills going into the medal race (13:00) of the women’s 470 level at the top of the standings with New Zealand’s Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie.
Inside the Olympic Stadium on the penultimate day of the athletics, Britain has a healthy representation of two finalists in the women’s 1500m (8.55pm).
Lisa Dobriskey, who considered quitting the sport earlier this year due to potentially fatal blood clots on her lungs, qualified fourth in her semi-final, while Laura Weightman, coached by BBC commentator and former Olympic silver medallist Steve Cram, went through as one of the two fastest losers.
GB’s Steve Lewis goes in the pole vault (7pm) and Sophie Hitchon in the hammer final (7.35pm), the relays continue with the finals of the women’s 4x100m (8.40pm) and the men’s 4x400m (9.20pm), and the Jamaicans are expected to star in the first round of the men’s 4x100m (7.45pm).
The women’s 5,000m final (8.05pm) will see a fascinating clash between Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot.
In boxing, four British men have the chance to guarantee at least silver medals as the semi-finals take place at the ExCel.
Bantamweight Luke Campbell faces Japan’s Satoshi Shimizu (2pm), welterweight Fred Evans is up against Ukraine’s Taras Shelestyuk (9.30pm), middleweight Anthony Ogogo takes on Esquiva Falcao Florentino of Brazil (3pm), and super-heavyweight Anthony Joshua meets Ivan Dychko of Kazakhstan (10.30pm).
The final diving event of the Games gets underway with the men’s 10m platform. After missing out on a medal in the synchronised event with partner Pete Waterfield, British sensation Tom Daley will get his campaign for individual success underway in the preliminary rounds, with the semi-finals and finals taking place on Saturday.
Great Britain women’s hockey team had high hopes of contesting the gold medal match but Argentina’s semi-final win means it is they who will take on the Netherlands in the final (8pm).
GB must raise themselves to play New Zealand for bronze, which would equal the best-ever performance of Barcelona 1992.
Finally in basketball, the United States will not take their men’s semi-final lightly as they face Argentina, the side who beat them on the way to a shock gold in Athens eight years ago, at the North Greenwich Arena (9pm). Spain face Russia in the other semi-final (5pm).

Where to watch has probably been the biggest issue with the 2012 Olympics. There are so many different channels and over 3,000 hours of content associated with the Games from start to finish. Luckily, thanks to sites like this, I’ve got it all figured out. I can even watch the Olympics on my iPad via the Dish remote access app. It streams live content or anything I’ve recorded and it’s super easy to use. If it weren’t for a Dish co-worker I would have never tried it. So now, when I can’t go to a viewing party or I’m not at home, I can still keep up with everything revolving around the Games. Go Team USA and best of luck to those still competing! By the way, great job giving the schedule for each event: that’s very much appreciated!
