Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Day 6 on BBC & Eurosport – TV Guide

BBC Sport and Eurosport will have comprehensive round-the-clock coverage of the sixth day of action at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

SOTB’s Olympics TV guides will take you through all the key action and list the must-see moments every day throughout the Games.

A total of 24 Olympic sporting disciplines are in action on Thursday, with 17 gold medals set to be won. Here is a summary of the best action to look out for:


ROWING: After four years away from rowing, Helen Glover has the chance to return to the top step of a rowing podium for her third Olympic title, if she and Polly Swann win the women’s pair.


SWIMMING: The men’s 200m breaststroke final features European medallist James Wilby, though the hosts’ eyes will be on 20-year-old Shoma Sato, who has been breaking Japanese national records this year.


SHOOTING: It’s trap finals day and Britain has three representatives across the men’s and women’s competitions. Matthew Coward-Holley, who became the first Brit to win a world title in an individual Olympic shotgun discipline, and Aaron Heading are in the men’s event, while Kirsty Hegarty is the women’s event.


CANOE SLALOM: 2017 world champion Mallory Franklin of Great Britain goes in the women’s C1 slalom canoe, where she will be hope to contend for gold in the final, but she has to progress through the semi-finals first.


GYMNASTICS: The women’s individual all-around final takes place in the evening, without defending champion Simon Biles, who has pulled out from the event. Competing for Great Britain are twins Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova, who won a surprise bronze as part of the team event earlier in the week.


HOCKEY: Britain’s men and women both face the Netherlands in key group matches today. For the women, it is a repeat of the thrilling final in Rio, where GB pulled off an incredible penalty shootout win.


RUGBY SEVENS: After Fiji won gold in the men’s competition, today sees the start of the women’s event. Great Britain face ROC and then New Zealand in their opening pool matches.


CYCLING BMX RACING: The thrills and spills of BMX Racing begins today, with Kye Whyte and 2017 junior world champion Beth Shriever due to represent Great Britain in the quarter-finals.


GOLF: The men’s Olympic golf competition gets underway at Kasumigaseki Country Club, with Britain’s Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood aiming to repeat Justin Rose’s success in Rio five years ago.

BBC Sport is the home of live free-to-air coverage of all the key medal moments at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

More than 350 hours of coverage will be broadcast across network TV – BBC One and BBC Two – and via one extra live stream available on the Red Button and online via BBC iPlayer.

Eurosport is the only place to watch live coverage of every single televised Olympic event at the Tokyo Games.

The pan-European broadcaster will be running 9 dedicated Olympics TV channels, available on Sky, Virgin and BT TV, while full streaming coverage of every sport, totalling more than 3,000 hours of live action, can be found on Eurosport Player and Discovery+.

All BBC and Eurosport timings/channels listed in below are all subject to change.

Tokyo is eight hours ahead of the UK when lining up your viewing plans, so the early action on each day’s timetable will be happen overnight and the live sporting schedule is set to run through until around 3pm UK time each day.

With focus on UK medal interest, the potential for disruption due to Covid and the high chances of inclement weather in Tokyo, there may be late changes to the main BBC network TV schedule and Eurosport 1/2 coverage throughout the Games.

LIVE ROWING, SWIMMING, RUGBY 7s, BMX

Helen Glover attempts to win her third consecutive Olympic rowing gold in the women’s pair.

The 35-year-old, who took four years away from the sport post-Rio to start a family, goes for gold alongside her partner Polly Swann.

Elsewhere, there are five finals in the pool, including the men’s 200m breaststroke final, which features Great Britain’s James Wilby.

There are matches taking place in the women’s rugby sevens along with the BMX racing quarter-finals.

LIVE CANOE SLALOM, HOCKEY

Britain’s Mallory Franklin hopes to upstage her Australian rival Jessica Fox and claim canoe slalom glory in Tokyo.

Franklin will be in action in the C1 final, a new event for Tokyo but one in which Franklin is a former world champion.

Elsewhere, in hockey, Great Britain’s men face the Netherlands in what could be a crucial group match.

NOTE: Between 6am and 9am during Olympic Breakfast, there will be hourly BBC national and regional news updates.

LIVE HOCKEY, GYMNASTICS

Great Britain’s women’s hockey team take on Netherlands in a repeat of the memorable Rio 2016 Olympic final.

Britain beat the Dutch to gold five years ago, delaying the 10 O’Clock News in the process, as the nation was gripped by the action in Brazil.

Today’s match is in the group stages so there are no medals on offer but it was still set to be a fascinating encounter.

Elsewhere, the all-around artistic gymnastics title is up for grabs, although sporting superstar American gymnast and reigning Olympic champion Simone Biles will be absent.

NOTE: Coverage switches to BBC Two for 45 minutes at 12pm.

Continued live coverage as day six draws to a close in Tokyo.

Along with continued coverage of the women’s all-around gymnastics final, medals are also decided in table tennis, while there’s more action from the pool in the swimming heats.

As the live action draws to a close, there’s another chance to see extended highlights of the best action from around the Games, where a grand total of 17 gold medals were handed out in the Japanese capital on day six.

Eurosport and discovery+ is the ‘Streaming Home of the Olympics’ for Tokyo 2020.

The platform will include more than 50 live event feeds, including the main Eurosport 1 and 2 channels. Discovery+ will also stream Eurosport pop-up channels 3 to 9, as well as providing access to all the action on-demand.
