BBC & S4C to show Under-20 Six Nations 2021

BBC Wales and S4C will show live coverage of every match in the 2021 Under-20 Six Nations Championship in July.

This year’s Championship is being held at Cardiff Arms Park over five match days, spread over four weeks, and every game will be shown live on BBC/S4C TV and online.

Rounds one and five will be shown live on the BBC, while S4C will bring live coverage of rounds two, three and four, with English commentary available.

Every Wales game will be broadcast live on either BBC Two Wales or S4C, while the remaining matches will all be shown online BBC iPlayer and S4C Clic. Selected matches may also be shown on TV via the Red Button.

Sian Gwynedd, Head of Content Production for BBC Cymru Wales said:

“It’s incredibly exciting that every game of this Championship is going to be available for viewers to watch free to air on BBC Two Wales and S4C.

“It forms part of a brilliant summer of sport which will keep fans on the edge of their seats as the tension unfolds. I can’t wait!”

Sue Butler, S4C sports commissioner, added:

“S4C will be showing nine matches from this year’s Championship. We missed the Under-20s on our screens back in February and March and are delighted to see the Championship with us for the summer.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the young players to showcase their talents to a wider audience, and we’re looking forward to seeing all six teams in action.”

BBC Cymru Wales will be responsible for producing the live match coverage for all fifteen games.

The BBC and S4C’s full coverage of the men’s under-20’s championship follows the corporation’s recent exclusive coverage of the women’s championship, where all 15 matches were broadcast on free-to-air platforms for the first time.

Gareth Rhys Owen, presenter of S4C’s Clwb Rygbi and BBC Wales’ Scrum V Live, said:

“The Under-20s Six Nations gives us a glimpse of the future of rugby. No doubt we’ll see some new names making their mark in this year’s Championship.

“With the new format, and the matches all being played at the Arms Park, there is a different buzz about this year’s competition.”
