Channel 4 will broadcast a full replay of England’s dramatic victory over West Germany in the 1966 World Cup Final as part of a special fund-raising programme on Sunday, 7 June.
Final Replay ’66 is a chance to watch the whole of the famous match at the old Wembley stadium, in the company of special footballing guests, all of which will raise money for the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal.
The three-hour show on Channel 4 and All 4, presented by Gabby Logan, will reflect on the most iconic moment in English football history and hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst will be hand to give his unique insight into the game as it happens.
Ex-England player and manager Glenn Hoddle will also feature, as will 1990 World Cup winner Jurgen Klinsmann and England Lionesses star Alex Scott.
The pre-match build-up will include an interview with Sir Geoff – the only man ever to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup Final – about the moment he netted his third goal, Alf Ramsey’s tactics and legendary temper, the team’s pre-match nerves and what it meant to walk out onto the green pitch at Wembley Stadium in an England shirt on that special day.

“Revisiting that special day in 1966 always brings back many fantastic memories and I am certain the re-broadcast of the match by the Final Replay team will bring a smile to many at a difficult time – and help raise funds for the vital National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal.
“I can’t wait to watch the game with Gabby and Glenn on Sunday. It’ll be wonderful – and emotional for me – to relive some of those highlights again. Come on England!”
The full replay of the entire match itself, including extra time, will include a mix of commentary and chat with input from the special guests.
It will be broadcast in black and white, as it was on that famous day – 30 July, 1966 – to more than 30 million viewers who watched the match on the BBC and ITV, with special colour footage taken from the day, including The Queen greeting the teams and the amazing celebrations that followed after England’s memorable win, also featuring.
Pictures of the 1966 final have been provided by FIFA, which granted Channel 4 the rights to broadcast the original game footage for this special viewing event.
The programme will feature the original match commentary provided on the day by the BBC’s Kenneth Wolstenholme and ITV’s Hugh Johns.
Final Replay ’66 will be produced by Whisper and support the fundraising efforts of the National Emergencies Trust’s Coronavirus Appeal, which was launched in response to the COVID-19 health pandemic.
Whisper will be providing its production services without charge and covering the majority of its own costs in support of the appeal, which is providing vital funds to grassroots charities and groups all over the UK who are supporting the urgent needs of their communities.
Appeals to raise money for the National Emergencies Trust will feature throughout the show as well as updates on the work undertaken by the charity, whose Patron is His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge.
