The BBC will continue to broadcast a raft of special football programmes this weekend (9-10 May) in the continued absence of the professional game in the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This includes live coverage of the opening match of the new South Korean K-League season on Friday morning, between Jeonbuk Motors and Suwon Bluewings, the first live football to be covered by one of the major UK broadcasters in almost two months.
The latest Match of the Day’s Top 10 Podcast, in MOTD’s traditional Saturday night slot on BBC One, sees Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright discuss the ten best players to have won the prestigious Ballon d’Or during the Premier League era.
Following that will be another edition of Match of Their Day, where a BBC pundit chooses three matches from the MOTD archives and reveal some of the stories behind each game.
On Saturday lunchtime, Football Focus will be presented Dan Walker from his home, featuring the latest on the return of Germany’s Bundesliga within a couple of weeks, as well as interviews with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.
This will be followed by a special Women’s FA Cup Rewind programme, on the day that the final of the season’s competition was meant to be staged, featuring a number of classic recent finals.
The latest World Cup Rewind episode on BBC One on Saturday afternoon features highlights of England’s unforgettable semi-final against West Germany at Italia 90, plus the 1974 final, which pitted West Germany, captained by Franz Beckenbauer, against Johan Cruyff’s Holland.
Also featured are a 2010 thriller between Slovakia and Italy, Nigeria’s efforts to upset a star-studded Spain line-up at the 1998 World Cup and a high-scoring classic from 1986 involving the USSR and Belgium.
Then on Sunday afternoon there will be a full replay of the BBC’s coverage of the dramatic quarter-final encounter from the 1990 World Cup, between England and Cameroon, via the Red Button and on the BBC Sport website.
BBC Scotland will deliver more classic action from the Sportscene archives, featuring an Old Firm derby clash from 2002 and a look back at Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign as Aberdeen manager in the 1980s.

BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website will also be live streaming the second ePremier League Invitational Tournament over the weekend, with Premier League footballers, including Phil Foden and James Maddinson, putting their FIFA 20 skills to the test in this inaugural eSports event.
