Football shows on the BBC: 25-26 April

Live sport might still be on hold but the BBC will continue to broadcast a raft of special football programmes this weekend (25-26 April) in the continued absence of the professional game due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This includes the latest Match of the Day’s Top 10 Podcast, in MOTD’s traditional Saturday night slot on BBC One, where Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright discuss the ten best ‘bonkers’ moments in Premier League history.

Following that will be another edition of Match of Their Day, where this week Danny Murphy chooses three matches from the archives and reveal some of the stories behind each game.

Another special edition of Football Focus will be shown on Saturday lunchtime, presented by Dan Walker from his home, featuring Wolves captain Conor Coady, Liverpool’s James Milner and Raheem Sterling of Manchester City.

This weekend’s World Cup Rewind episode on BBC One features Northern Ireland’s classic encounter with Spain in 1982, Brazil’s thrilling five-goal 1998 quarter-final clash with Denmark and South Korea’s attempt to upset Italy in 2002.

Then on Sunday afternoon there will be a full replay of the memorable last 16 clash from the 2018 World Cup between Colombia and England via the Red Button and on the BBC Sport website.

BBC Scotland will deliver more classic action from the Sportscene archives, featuring a Dundee derby from November 1995 and a replay of the final day of the 1998 Scottish league season, where Rangers and Celtic went head-to-head for the title.

All programmes will be available to watch live and on-demand on the BBC iPlayer.

BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website will also be live streaming the ePremier League Invitational Tournament over the weekend, with Premier League footballers, including Raheem Sterling and Trent Alexander-Arnold, putting their FIFA 20 skills to the test in this inaugural eSports event.

Sportscene relives the finale to the 1998 Scottish league season as the Old Firm clubs went head-to-head for the title. Rangers were looking to make it ten league titles in a row, but a Celtic win against St Johnstone on the final day of the season would scupper that.
