Football shows on the BBC: 27-29 March

The BBC will continue to broadcast a raft of special football programmes this weekend (27-29 March) in the continued absence of the professional game due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This includes the second of Match of the Day’s Top 10 Podcasts, in MOTD’s traditional Saturday night slot on BBC One, where Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright debate the greatest strikers of the Premier League era.

Another compilation edition of Football Focus will be shown on Saturday lunchtime, featuring more of the programme’s best interviews and features from the season so far, as well as selected features from BBC Two’s MOTDx show.

The BBC will also replay its review of the 2018 World Cup on Saturday afternoon on BBC One, while a Euro 2004 rewind will be shown on the BBC Sport website, Red Button and BBC iPlayer, followed by ‘The Lionesses’ Summer’, a review of the 2019 Women’s World Cup on Sunday.

In addition, the BBC Scotland channel will also be showing classic Scottish Cup matches, including extended highlights of the 2012 Scottish Cup final between Hibernian and Hearts on Friday evening,

Then on Sunday, BBC Scotland will show the 1991 final between Motherwell and Dundee United in full, with a live text commentary on the BBC Sport website.

FRIDAY 27th MARCH

SPORTSCENE: SCOTTISH CUP CLASSIC

Sportscene delves into the archive to bring you classic Scottish Cup finals from yesteryear. Starting with the Edinburgh derby showdown between Hearts and Hibernian in 2012. This will be followed at 8pm by the Glasgow 1967: The Lisbon Lions documentary marking the 50th anniversary of Celtic becoming the first British team to win the European Cup.

SATURDAY 28th MARCH

FOOTBALL FOCUS + MOTDx

Dan Walker and Reece Parkinson present features with the biggest names in the game, in a combined edition of Football Focus as MOTDx, including David Beckham, Kieran Trippier, Declan Rice, Gigi Wijnaldum, and Son Heung-min.
