Sky Sports and BT Sport have announced their first batch of live televised Premier League games for the 2018/19 season.
A total of 32 games have been selected for live TV coverage in August and September, with Sky Sports’ live fixtures featuring Arsenal’s home clash against defending champions Manchester City on the opening weekend.
Unai Emery’s first competitive game in charge of Arsenal since replacing Arsene Wenger will be at home to Manchester City, live on Super Sunday on Sunday, 12 August, kicking of at 4pm.
The new season will kick off on Sky Sports at Old Trafford on Friday, 10 August when Manchester United host Leicester City, live on Friday Night Football, with Newcastle v Tottenham on Saturday, 11 August, and Liverpool v West Ham on Sunday, 12 August, also live on the opening weekend.
Sky Sports will televise 24 live Premier League fixtures across August, September and early October with all 20 clubs to be shown in that period.
Further highlights on Sky Sports include Tottenham’s first game at their new White Hart Lane stadium when they host Liverpool on Saturday, 15 September, as well as their trip to Old Trafford for a Monday Night Football showdown with Manchester United on 27 August.
BT Sport’s selection of live Premier League games sees Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all feature across the channels.
Headlining are two mouth-watering Chelsea home matches, with the Blues taking on Arsenal on 18 August at Stamford Bridge, and, hosting Liverpool at home on 29 September.
Opening BT Sport’s coverage of the new Premier League season on 11 August will be the clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton. This clash pits last season’s Championship title winners against an Everton side targeting a reboot under the leadership of new manager Marco Silva.
In the first of two away days for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United on BT Sport in the first two months of the season, BT Sport cameras will be at Vicarage Road on 15 September for the Red Devils clash with Watford, while on 29 September, Mourinho will take his side to London’s Olympic Stadium to take on West Ham, who are now managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, in an intriguing matchup.
Tottenham Hotspur face an away trip to the south coast on 22 September to take on former Spurs defender Chris Hughton’s Brighton & Hove Albion side. Mauricio Pochettino’s side, led by England’s Harry Kane and Dele Alli, will be focusing on securing three points just days after their UEFA Champions League group stage opener.
Commenting on BT Sport’s opening Premier League picks of the new season, Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said:
“August and September will see the Premier League return with a bang on BT Sport. Many of the best players on show at the FIFA World Cup will feature on BT Sport, including the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane and Jesse Lingard.
“BT Sport is showing a huge amount of exclusively live football over these two months, including a potential playoff for Celtic as they bid to enter the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, plus match day one of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League group stages.”
In addition to live matches on Sky Sports and BT Sport, the BBC will broadcast free-to-air highlights on Match of the Day every Saturday and Sunday throughout the season.
