Just four more days of Rio’s Olympic Games remain as the greatest show on earth reaches day 13 with comprehensive coverage across BBC TV, Red Button and Online.
There were no medals won on a quiet day 12 for Great Britain’s athletes, but GB’s women secured a spot in the Olympic hockey final for the first time, while today there are guaranteed medals in sailing as well as high hopes in triathlon, boxing, badminton and canoe sprint.
ATHLETICS: Usain Bolt continues his bid for another Olympic gold medal treble when he defends his 200m title in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Jamaican sprinter has already won gold in the 100m for the third successive Games and will attempt to follow-up with victories in the 200m and 4x100m relay, and is targeting a sub-19 second time as he tries to produce yet another sensational feat at the Olympics.
America’s Ashton Eaton will try to emulate Britain’s Daley Thompson as the men’s decathlon concludes with the 1500m finale.
Thompson won back-to-back decathlon titles at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics, while Eaton, the London 2012 champion, holds the world record and world title heading to Rio.
TRIATHLON: Alistair and Jonny Brownlee are Great Britain’s hopes for Olympics medals once again in the men’s triathlon event at 15:00.
Older brother Alistair claimed the gold at London 2012, with Alistair taking bronze, and the GB duo could benefit from the absence of Spain’s silver medallist Javier Gomez, who is ruled out with a broken arm.
Rio’s triathlon course involves an ocean swim off Copacabana beach followed by a hill to be tackled eight times on the bike and a hot, flat run to finish.
SAILING: Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark should finally be crowned women’s 470 sailing champions, following Wednesday’s postponement due to light winds, while Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign, currently fourth, could force their way onto the podium in the men’s 49ers medal race.
TAEKWONDO: Britain’s first Olympic taekwondo champion returns for more in Rio as London 2012 gold medallist Jade Jones begins her quest for glory in the women’s -57kg category.
Since her Olympic victory four years ago, Jones has added two European titles and is the world number one for her weight, and she should figure in the latter stage of the event, which start at around 00:00 UK time.
BADMINTON: Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge have the chance to claim Great Britain’s first Olympic medal in badminton since 2004 when they face Chinese duo Wei Hong and Biao Chai in the men’s doubles bronze medal match at approximately 14:10.
CANOE SPRINT: Team GB’s best shot in the canoe sprint lies with Liam Heath, who has a chance in the K2 200m paired with Jon Schofield, an event in which they won bronze four years ago.
DIVING: Tonia Couch has made the final of the women’s 10m platform diving which starts at 20:00, an event in which China looks set to dominate once again, although Couch will be aiming to finish in the top five and maybe challenge for a medal.
BOXING: Nicola Adams will continue her role as the standard bearer for women’s boxing in Britain when she returns to action in the semi-finals.
Four years ago, the 33-year-old became the first ever female boxing gold medallist in 2012. She has already collected at least a bronze after winning her opening bout and now will renew her rivalry with Cancan Ren, the Chinese opponent who she defeated in the London final.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL: After Brazil’s women failed to clinch the beach volleyball title, the men’s event presents a second strong chance for the hosts to win gold.
Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt are the men’s world champions heading into the contest and face the Italian pairing of Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo in the final from 04:00 UK time.
You can watch all the action from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Games across BBC TV, radio and online.
BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four and Red Button will have all the action covered, with multiple live streams available online, connected TVs, mobiles, tablets and the BBC Sport app.
