Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Day 5 on BBC & Eurosport – TV Guide

0

BBC Sport and Eurosport will have comprehensive round-the-clock coverage of the fifth day of action at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Team GB claimed six medals day four, including two silvers and three bronzes, to take their tally to 13 overall and put them fifth in the medal table, making this the most successful start for Great Britain in any Olympics.

SOTB’s Olympics TV guides will take you through all the key action and list the must-see moments every day throughout the Games.

A total of 27 Olympic sporting disciplines are in action on Wednesday, with 23 gold medals set to be won. Here is a summary of the best action to look out for:

ROWING: The history of the Great Britain men’s four is a rich one, with the likes of Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent among those who have helped steer the boat to gold at the last five games.

Now a quartet of Olympic debutants in the shape of Ollie Cook, Matt Rossiter, Rory Gibbs and Sholto Carnegie hope to add their names to the list of British Olympic men’s four champions.

Three other British crews will also race in finals today, while Helen Glover and Polly Swann go in the semi-finals of the women’s pairs.

RUGBY SEVENS: The men’s competition reaches its climax at Tokyo Stadium. 2016 silver medallists Great Britain have made it again to the semi-finals, where they face New Zealand. The gold medal match takes place at 10am.

SWIMMING: After Tom Dean and Duncan Scott won a sensational gold and silver respectively in the 200m freestyle final on day four, the pair are back for the 4x200m freestyle relay, while Abbie Wood and Alicia Wilson hope to be in medal contention in the 2000m medley final.

CYCLING ROAD: The road cycling programme concludes at Fuji Speedway with the men’s and women’s individual time trials, where Anna Shackley rides for Team GB in the women’s event, while Geraint Thomas represents Britain’s best chance of a medal in the men’s event, although that will depend on how he has recovered his crash in the road race at the weekend.

DIVING: Five years ago in Rio, Jack Laugher and Chris Mears sensationally won gold in men’s 3m synchro. Now, Laugher returns to try and retain his title, with new diving partner Dan Goodfellow.

EQUESTRIAN: Charlotte Dujardin goes for more Olympic glory, aboard her new horse Gio, in the individual freestyle dressage competition.

Having won team bronze with Charlotte Fry and Carl Hester on day four, Dujardin will be aiming to become the first British woman to win gold medals at three different Olympics.

TENNIS: British interest in the tennis competition continues, with Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury in the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles quarter-finals, where they face Croatia’s Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig, while Liam Broady takes on France’s Jeremy Chardy in the third round of the singles tournament.
