Live sport might still be on hold but the BBC will continue to broadcast a raft of special football programmes this weekend (17-18 April) in the continued absence of the professional game due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This includes the fifth of Match of the Day’s Top 10 Podcasts, in MOTD’s traditional Saturday night slot on BBC One, where Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright discuss Premier League legends from the continent.
Following that will be the third edition of Match of Their Day, where pundits choose three matches from the archives and reveal some of the stories behind each game.
Another special edition of Football Focus will be shown on Saturday lunchtime, presented by Dan Walker from his home, featuring Leicester City’s James Maddison and Watford captain Troy Deeney.
This weekend would have been the semi-finals of the FA Cup and to mark this occasion, the BBC will show two special FA Cup Rewind programmes across the weekend on BBC One, looking back at four classic semi-finals from the archives.
There will also be a full replay of the epic 2019 semi-final between Watford and Wolves on Sunday afternoon via the Red Button and on the BBC Sport website.
BBC Scotland will deliver more classic action from the Sportscene archives, featuring an Old Firm league clash from 1998 and a full replay 2008 Scottish Cup semi-final between Queen of the South and Aberdeen.
BBC Wales viewers will also be able to watch another Match of the Day Wales Classic, this time featuring famous win against Italy in 2002, when Craig Bellamy sealed victory for Wales with a goal in the 71st minute, on Saturday afternoon.
In addition, there will be another chance to watch the acclaimed 2009 film – The Damned United – starring Michael Sheen as Brian Clough, on Saturday night on BBC One, straight after Match of Their Day.
