Manchester United’s in-house television channel MUTV has confirmed that it will screen exclusive live coverage of November’s prestigious international match between Argentina and Portugal at Old Trafford.
This mouthwatering friendly clash, which kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, November 18, is likely to feature some of the biggest names in international football and MUTV subscribers in the UK and Ireland will be able to watch all the action.
There will be significant interest for Manchester United fans with Angel Di Maria named on Argentina’s 25-man list, while Portugal’s party is set to feature former Old Trafford star Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Nani, who’s currently playing for Sporting Lisbon after being loaned out by the Reds.
With Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi also potentially playing for World Cup finalists Argentina, in what would be his first match at Old Trafford since 2008, it’s likely to be another night to remember under the floodlights at the self-styled ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
The match had been originally billed for live broadcast on Sky Sports as part of an international double-header on November 18, with the Old Trafford clash due to have been followed by another prestige friendly in Scotland’s home encounter against England.
But Manchester United confirmed on Saturday that its official club channel will screen the match exclusively live with MUTV’s coverage on the night set to start at 7.00pm.
The world’s two best players in Messi and Ronaldo are set to lead their respective national sides in an international friendly clash at one of the world’s most iconic football arenas and tickets for the clash are selling fast.
Both nations had enjoyed differing, yet equally disappointing, fates at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, with Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo unable to prevent a tame Portugal side from crashing out at the group stage.
Messi starred in Angentina’s march to final, but failed to have an impact in the biggest of games, as the little maestro watched on helplessly as Mario Gotze’s extra-time volley won Germany the World Cup.
Portugal find themselves fourth in their Euro 2016 qualifying group, a position they should improve upon following the visit of minnows Armenia in the next round of fixtures.
With Denmark the highest-ranked side in their group, Portugal should relish the opportunity to test themselves against a star-studded opponent in a game which promises to showcase some of the world’s prime footballing talent.
The likes of Messi, Angel di Maria and Javier Mascherano locking horns with Ronaldo and co and an ideal toast to the year in international football.
Fans can watch the match exclusively live on MUTV, which recently launched its first-ever high-definition service, is available in the UK on multiple platforms, including Sky, Virgin Media and UPC.
