BBC Scotland outlines football coverage for 2020/21 season

BBC Scotland has announced its football programming line-up for the 2020/21 SPFL season which is set to kick-off in August.

The corporation’s flagship Sportscene programme will show all of the day’s Scottish Premiership goals every Saturday evening this season.

The hour-long show, which returns to Saturdays for the first time since 2002, will be broadcast on the BBC Scotland channel from 1 August at 7.30pm each week.

Jonathan Sutherland will present Sportscene on Saturday nights, while Steven Thompson will now take the helm of the Sunday version of the programme, which will offering more action, analysis and talking points from the entire weekend’s matches.

The Sunday edition of Sportscene will also be repeated on BBC One Scotland later in the evening, with all programmes available to watch online across the UK on BBC iPlayer.

Across the opening weeks of the season, BBC Scotland will broadcast additional Sportscene highlights programmes, including action from Ross County v Motherwell on 3 August, Hibernian v Dundee United on 11 August, before a five-game programme the following evening.

Complimenting the highlights shows will be Sportscene Results, which will be broadcast on BBC One Scotland on Saturday afternoons, usually from 4.30pm.

BBC Scotland’s live SPFL Championship matches on Friday nights will also return, when the second-tier season starts on 17 October and will be co-presented by Scotland international Leanne Crichton and Jonathan Sutherland.

Each of the live matches will include pundits from the women’s game, current Scottish Premiership players as well as current and former Scotland internationals.

In addition to BBC Scotland’s TV coverage, fans can also keep up to date with matches as they happen via the BBC Sport Scotland website, where all the goals will be available to watch on the day of each game.

For the 2020/21 season, Sky Sports takes over as the exclusive live broadcaster of Scottish Premiership matches, having previously shared the rights to live matches with BT Sport, with its live match coverage brought to an end prematurely in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

BT Sport will no longer broadcast Scottish football, except for Champions League and Europa League matches, having also lost the rights to broadcast Scottish League Cup matches to Premier Sports.

BBC Scotland and Premier Sports will broadcast live coverage of the conclusion to the 2019/20 Scottish Cup campaign, with the semi-finals and the final set to be played later in the year.
