FreeSports has announced that it will broadcast live matches from Poland and Portugal’s top flight football leagues when the resume following the coronavirus pandemic.
The UK’s only dedicated free-to-air sports broadcaster has picked up the rights to broadcast two matches per week from Poland’s Ekstraklasa, in a rights deal that will run through until at least 2021.
FreeSports’ live coverage starts on Saturday, 30 May, with Lech Poznan’s home match against Legia Warsaw, kicking off at 7pm UK time.
A further five Ekstraklasa matches are scheduled to be broadcast live up to 14 June, with delayed coverage of selected matches also set to be shown on the channel.
In addition, FreeSports has also confirmed its schedule of live matches for the return of Portugal’s Liga NOS, which resumes on Wednesday, 3 June, with Famalicao’s home clash against Porto.
Nine live matches from Portugal’s top division will be shown on FreeSports up to and including 18 June.
In a separate deal, the broadcaster has also picked up the rights to broadcast live Danish Superliga matches, starting on 1 June with FC Midtjylland against AC Horsens.
Commenting on the deal to bring Polish football to its channel, Richard Sweeney, FreeSports’ chief operating officer , said:
“This is great news for football fans in the UK with the Polish PKO BP Ekstraklasa set to return to our screens. We’re looking forward to bringing viewers two games live from each round live and completely free across TV platforms and via our FreeSports app.”
On top of Polish, Portuguese and Danish football on the channel, FreeSports, along with sister channel of pay-TV broadcaster Premier Sports, already holds rights to Spain’s LaLiga, Italy’s Serie A and Major League Soccer in the United States.
FreeSports is available to watch on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media, as well as online via FreeSports Player and the FreeSports App.
Details of forthcoming live Polish, Portugese and Danish matches on FreeSports can be found below. Selected matches will also be simulcast on Premier Sports.
