The acclaimed documentary Diego Maradona will receive its UK television premiere this Saturday (21 March) on Channel 4.
Profiling the notorious and outrageously talented Argentine footballer, the biographical film focuses on his seven years playing for Italian side Napoli in the 1980s and early 1990s.
He was signed from Barcelona in 1984 for a record-breaking transfer fee and went on to become one of football’s most celebrated icons, leading Napoli to the Serie A title for the first time and winning the World Cup in 1986, before his career took a darker turn.
The 2019 film was constructed from over 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from Maradona’s own personal archive.
It is accompanied by audio interviews with the man himself, who gave his support to the documentary, and people who know him best.
Produced by On The Corner, in association with Film 4, the feature film was directed by Asif Kapadia, who previously found success with the BAFTA-winning documentary Senna.
