BT Sport has agreed a new deal to continue showing exclusively live matches from France’s Ligue 1 and the Coupe de la Ligue in the UK until 2021.
Fans will be able to enjoy action from the top flight of the nation that won this summer’s FIFA World Cup and BT Sport will show up to five live and exclusive Ligue 1 Conforama games every weekend, as well as a weekly preview and highlights show.
A thrilling campaign is in prospect as Monaco, Lyon and Marseille bid to topple star-studded champions Paris Saint-Germain, who are under new management in the shape of former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel.
The new deal also means BT Sport will be the only place to watch the likes of Neymar Jr and French World Cup sensation Kylian Mbappé in domestic action as well as in the UEFA Champions League.
The news comes as a boost to BT Sport’s European football coverage following the loss of its Italian Serie A football rights to newcomers Eleven Sports, which made its entry into the UK market in early August.
Commenting on the deal, Andy Haworth, managing director of strategy and content, BT Consumer, said:
“We’re delighted to continue as the home of Ligue 1 Conforama until 2021 and we look forward to bringing our viewers comprehensive coverage of all the action from France, with live matches every weekend on TV and mobile via our award winning BT Sport App.”
“Combined with our lineup of exclusively live matches from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, SPFL, Betfred Cup, FA WSL and Bundesliga, BT Sport is the best place to be for your football fix across all the major competitions, and using the latest broadcast innovations whether it’s UHD with Dolby Atmos on BT TV or on the award winning BT Sport App.”
BT Sport’s continued Ligue 1 coverage will sit alongside a host of other elite competitions this season, including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Premier League, FA Cup and Bundesliga.
