Manchester United’s crucial play-off second leg with Club Brugge will be the first UEFA Champions League match to be shown live on the free BT Sport Showcase channel.
The clash at the Jan Breydel stadium in Bruges on Wednesday, August 26, will be shown on Freeview channel 59, with coverage starting at 7.00pm, ahead of a 7.45pm kick-off.
Exsiting subscribers will be able to watch the game on BT Sport Europe, the BT Sport App and BTSport.com.
The game will determine whether Louis van Gaal’s side qualify for the group stage of the competition, which starts in September.
Manchester United hold a 3-1 advantage after the first leg, with a last-minute header from Marouane Fellaini adding to a dazzling double from new boy Memphis Depay.
Last week’s first leg at Old Trafford marked BT Sport’s debut covering a match from the Champions League proper, with the match broadcast exclusively on BT Sport Europe, its main Champions League and Europa League channel for the forthcoming season.
Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “We are delighted to offer this finely poised second-leg match as our first live match that will be freely available on BT Sport Showcase.
“It will give Freeview viewers the opportunity to enjoy a great live European tie and take a look at the excellent BT Sport Champions League coverage, if they are not already subscribers.”
BT Sport’s live coverage will be hosted by Gary Lineker, with analysis from Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand.
The game will also be broadcast live on BT Sport Europe for existing BT Sport customers.
BT Sport will be the only place to watch all 351 exclusively live UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches for the next three seasons.
As part of a commitment to make selected games available to non-subscribers, BT Sport will show 12 UEFA Champions League matches and 14 UEFA Europa League ties live on free-to-air channel BT Sport Showcase, including the finals of both competitions next May.
Previous live free-to-air rights holders ITV will continue covering the Champions League and Europa with one-hour highlights shows covering both competitions each matchday throughout the season.
