Sky Sports has announced the two ties it will screen live as part of its coverage of the fourth round of the 2014/15 Capital One Cup in October.
Shrewsbury Town’s Capital One Cup exploits of the first three rounds have been rewarded with a tie at home to Chelsea in the stand-out game of the fourth round, which will be the first of two Sky-televised ties on Tuesday, October 28, kicking off at 7.45pm.
Micky Mellon’s men overcame Norwich City in the third round after seeing off Blackpool in the first round and Leicester in round 2 to set-up their match with Jose Mourinho’s Premier League high-flyers.
With Chelsea top of the Premier League, the draw that will bring them to Shrewsbury’s Greenhous Meadow stadium is a dream come true for the side lying 74 places below them – sixth in the bottom rung of the Football League.
Holders Manchester City thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 7-0 in their third round tie at the Etihad and will be at home again in round four when they will host an all Premier League tie against Newcastle, which will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The all-Premier League tie will be played on Wednesday, October 29, also kicking off at 7.45pm, as Manuel Pellegrini aims to retain the trophy he won in March, in his first season in charge at the current Premier League champions.
Elsewhere in the competition, there are two other all-Premier League contests in the form of Stoke City against Southampton, while Liverpool play another home tie, this time against Swansea, following their extraordinary penalty shoot-out win over Middlesbrough in round three.
Brighton face a tough trip to Tottenham but fellow Championship outfit Bournemouth will fancy their chances of causing an upset at home to West Brom.
Fulham and Derby County were the last teams out in the draw, meaning there will definitely be Championship representation in the last eight.
The draw for the quarter finals of this season’s Capital One Cup will take place live on Sky Sports immediately after the conclusion of the second televised tie on October 29 (draw numbers below).
Sky Sports will again screen 15 matches from this season’s Capital One Cup, including both legs of each semi-final and the final exclusively live, while terrestrial highlights of every round will be shown on BBC One.
