With the return of one of the biggest multi-sport events to UK soil this summer, the BBC will bring sports fans all the action live from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games across all its platforms, led by an expert team of presenters, commentators, analysts and reporters.
Including more than 300 hours of network TV coverage, 200 hours of radio coverage and more than 1300 hours of live action via up to 17 digital streams, this will be the most comprehensive BBC coverage of a Commonwealth Games and integrated Para-sports programme to date.
Familiar BBC faces Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Hazel Irvine lead the corporation’s television coverage on BBC One, while BBC Three will also be broadcasting daily live coverage, in a similar arrangement to the London 2012 Olympics.
The presenting team in the BBC Pacific Quay studio and on-site at the various venues across Glasgow will all be joined by a top list of experts analysts, commentators and reporters, featuring some of the biggest names in sport.
These include the likes of Olympic gold medalists Rebecca Adlington, Michael Johnson, Ian Thorpe, Chris Boardman, Denise Lewis and Sir Chris Hoy, Paralympic legends Tanni Grey-Thompson, Dame Sarah Storey and Marc Woods, as well as many familiar BBC Sport faces such as Jonathan Davies from rugby union, Mark Foster from swimming, Leon Taylor from diving and many more.
Leading sports commentators Steve Cram, Andrew Cotter, Andy Jameson, Simon Brotherton, Matt Chilton and Bob Ballard will also be on hand for viewers during the Games as they guide fans through all the twists and turns of 11 days of top class sporting competition.
Former Olympic rowing champion Sir Matthew Pinsent leads the BBC’s roving reporting team around the Games, alongside fellow rowing gold medallist Katherine Grainger, plus BBC Sport regulars Rishi Persad, Sonali Shah and Ore Oduba.
While there will be plenty of big name faces across the BBC’s coverage on TV and radio, there will be a couple of notable absentees from the BBC team this year.
Having been part of the presenting team at every Commonwealth Games since 1994, Sue Barker will not part of the BBC’s coverage in Glasgow after deciding to scale back on her TV commitments outside tennis, while the veteran Hugh Porter, the corporation’s voice of cycling since the late 1980s, left his role as lead cycling commentator after the 2012 Olympics.

Commentary for the remaining sports will be provided on the international feed produced by the Games’ host broadcaster SVGTV, run by the highly respected sports production firm Sunset+Vine in partnership with Global Television.
The SVGTV line-up of commentators (marked *) will be added to this page in due course.

Absence of Paul Dickinson a monster mistake, really left a big hole. Steve Cram and Brendan Foster their usual high class, all others T&F commentators poor. As for the studio analysis team, brilliant sportspeople all, completely useless at analysis and TV work – repeatedly had to turn sound off and then decided to watch delayed so I could fast forward. If the Beeb are going to do analysis, please only do it with bright people and good communicators, being a brilliant sports performer doesn’t automatically make you a good pundit. I would rather a good pundit with no personal sports success than a former star who is clueless on TV
Who is doing the badminton commentary with David Mercer. He refers to playing with the England pair so must be a player.
Matt Baker’s biased comments in favour of England on the gymnastics are nauseating! Sort it out!
I totally agree. His over-enthusiastic comments about the English team are nauseating, compared to the lacklustre comments he makes about the Scottish athletes, who he mentions merely as a compulsory remark. If only he could show the same gushiness and giddiness towards the host nation! So much for unbiased commentary!
I miss Sue. I noticed she isn’t presenting. Please come back. Gary stick to footie please.
Where is Paul Dickinson? The most knowledgeable athletics commentator there is doesn’t seem to have been asked to commentate on this important competition.
Hello- does anyone have any idea as to why Paul Dickenson isn’t commentating for the BBC? The athletics coverage isn’t the same without his voice!
The two women commentating on the Australian men’s hockey match were excellent: very knowledgeable, erudite and obviously knew the game inside out. Unfortunately, the male commentator for the following Wales/RSA game had none of these qualities. Please restore the women full time (plus Sean Kerley) for the remaining matches, the important ones.
Been watching the red button tonight……..why different commentators? They are doing a superb job! Sorry but Gary Linekar is very poor.
Are you able to publish the full list of SVGTV commentators?
Hi John,
We will try our best! Hopefully by tomorrow.
SOTB
Who is doing the commentary for today’s (Tuesday)Decathlon?
Sounds like Ron Pickering’s son Shaun to me?
Hi Peter,
If you are referring to the BBC coverage, then Steve Backley would have been commentating this morning’s decathlon events.
SOTB
Could you tell me the commentators for the wrestling bout between England’s Yana Rattigan and Scotland’s Fiona Robertson that took place this morning? (about 11.45am) Many thanks
Hi Darryl,
Commentating on the wrestling for the host broadcaster SVGTV this morning were Colin Bryce and Non Evans.
SOTB
Hi SOTB.
Who were the SVGTV commentators for the mens’ hockey this evening?
I feel like I recognised one of them from athletics or winter olympic commentary and I can’t find out who he is. Thanks.
Hi Hannah. We believe you’re thinking of Matt Chilton, and indeed he has been commentating on the hockey for the host broadcaster, as well as the triathlon events for the BBC.
Hope this helps!
SOTB
Who is providing the live commentary for the rugby sevens?
Hi Julie. The BBC are using the commentary team provided by the Glasgow 2014 host broadcaster SVGTV – they are Nick Mullins, Scott Hastings, Andy Moore and Simon Mannix.
