Rugby World Cup Final 2019 live on ITV

England face South Africa in the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final and ITV will be the place to watch all the tension and drama of rugby union’s showpiece match as it unfolds in Yokohama, as a memorable tournament comes to a close.

Japan have already made the 2019 edition a tournament to remember, not just for being welcoming hosts but for changing rugby’s established world order, moving up the rankings with famous wins against Ireland and Scotland and making their first appearance in the knockout stages.

Now Eddie Jones’ men aim to make their own mark and lift the William Webb Ellis trophy for the second time, having blown away southern hemisphere juggernauts Australia and New Zealand in the knockout stages so far, but will need steel and resolve to get through a solid Springbok line.

A formidable South Africa team, lead by coach Rassie Erasmus, now stand in their way and could ruin everything for Jones’s team in what promises to be a fascinating final of contrasting styles.

Jones has had pivotal roles in the opposition camp in England’s two previous Rugby World Cup finals, pushing England deep into extra time as coach of his native Australia in 2003, before joining up with South Africa on a short-term stint for their 2007 campaign.

Now he will aim to win the Webb Ellis trophy as coach of the England team and his generation of players, led on the pitch by captain Owen Farrell, will be striving to etch their owen place in the English sporting history books, 16 years on from that famous last-gasp drop goal by Jonny Wilkinson in Sydney that rocked the nation.

England reached their first World Cup final since 2007 with a thrilling 19-7 victory over two-time reigning and defending champions New Zealand, and they will perhaps need to eclipse the heights they reached in that superb semi-final performance when they go head-to-head against the South Africans traditional brutal power game.

They will entrust twin playmakers George Ford and captain Owen Farrell with the task of masterminding victory, with England having named an unchanged side for the final – the first time since March 2016 and only the second occasion overall that Jones has named an unchanged starting XV.

The Springboks overcame Wales in a more attritional affair in their semi-final encounter, and they have their own momentous landmark in sight, as should they win, Siya Kolisi would become the first black captain to lead South Africa – or any other team – to the title.

If South Africa, who lost their opening game to the All Blacks and are striving to become the first team to lift the Webb Ellis Cup despite a defeat along the way, cannot stop England, then Eddie Jones’ team will complete a remarkable clean sweep against all four southern hemisphere sides within a month, having already beaten Argentina, Australia and New Zealand on their way to the final.

This run of form perhaps makes the Red Roses the new favourites going into this showpiece final, but can they carry the trophy home for a second time?

A huge TV audience in the UK, likely to be in excess of 15 million viewers, will find out on the morning of Saturday, 2 November.

ITV will have live coverage of the climax to the 2019 Rugby World Cup from Yokohama, as England face South Africa for the right to lift the coveted William Webb Ellis trophy.

Mark Pougatch presents the channel’s exclusive English language coverage of the 2019 final from pitchside at the International stadium, starting at 7am on ITV and online via the ITV Hub, with a full two-hours of build-up ahead of kick-off at 9am.

He will be joined throughout the morning at ITV’s pitchside and studio positions in the stadium by a variety of guests, headlined by four World Cup winners – three of which won the trophy with England in 2003 – Sir Clive Woodward, Jonny Wilkinson and Lawrence Dallaglio, as well as Bryan Habana, who won with South Africa in 2007.

Match commentary will be led by Nick Mullins, alongside Ben Kay and Lawrence Dallaglio, with pitchside reports and interviews from David Flatman and Gabriel Clarke and additional inserts and comments throughout the coverage from Jill Douglas, Brian O’Driscoll, Paul O’Connell, George Gregan and Maggie Alphonsi.

ITV’s two-hour build-up programme will include an array of special features on both finalists, including a head-to-head conversation between Sir Clive Woodward, who masterminded England’s first ever World Cup triumph in 2003, and current England coach Eddie Jones.

There will be profiles of both captains – Owen Farrell of England and Siya Kolisi of South Africa, the Springbok’s first black Test captain, while Jonny Wilkinson and Bryan Habana take a look back at the 2007 final, in which they played against each other in what was the last World Cup meeting between the two nations before their showdown in Yokohama.

The ITV team will also take a look back at the tournament as a whole, with a focus on the legacy of Japan 2019 as the first ever Rugby World Cup played in Asia.

Fans can tune in to watch all the build-up and live match coverage for free on ITV from 7am. Live online streaming of the match will also be available via the ITV Hub – itv.com/hub – on a range of devices including laptops, smartphones and tablets.
