BT Sport will broadcast live coverage of Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match between Manchester United and the club he first played for, Everton, at Old Trafford.

The match on Wednesday, August 3, which will celebrate the England captain’s career, will be shown on BT Sport 1 and in 4K on BT Sport’s Ultra HD channel, with kick-off at 8pm.

Rooney, who joined Manchester United from Everton in 2004, has scored 245 goals in 520 appearances and is now just four behind Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time goal scoring record at United.

The match will also be Jose Mourinho’s first home match in charge of Manchester United and will see the FA Cup, won for a record equalling 12th time last season, on display.

At Rooney’s request, all proceeds will be donated to children’s charities, marking the start of a year of fundraising events by the Wayne Rooney Foundation aimed at raising £5million for disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

Money raised will be distributed to four chosen charity partners – the NSPCC, Claire House Children’s Hospice, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the Manchester United Foundation.

Donations can be made via BT’s not-for-profit, free, online fundraising service, MyDonate, with BT also a principle partner of the Testimonial.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “BT Sport is proud to be broadcasting this special charity event for football fans and is delighted to help raise money for the charities chosen by Wayne Rooney via BT’s MyDonate platform.”

The Wayne Rooney Testimonial will be in addition to BT Sport’s coverage of the Premier League for the 2016/17 season on Saturday evenings with its live matches now kicking off at 5.30pm.

The channel will also continue its exclusive coverage of both elite UEFA competitions this season, including the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Those wishing to donate to the Wayne Rooney Foundation to help its work through its partner charities can do so by visiting www.mydonate.bt.com/charities/waynerooneyfoundation.
