Dedicated motorsport channel Motors TV is now available to more UK homes than ever before after joining Virgin Media’s M+ TV package on channel 545.
From November 27, the self-styled ‘High Speed Television Channel’ moves from Virgin Media’s XL TV package to the more widely accessed M+ TV package.
Following its recent expansion to Freeview and YouView, Motors TV now has a total reach of 19 million UK viewers, strengthening its longstanding reputation as the country’s leading motorsport broadcaster.
Subscribers to Virgin Media’s M+ TV package will enjoy coverage of the FIA World Rally Championship, V8 Supercars, FIM MX World Championship, FIM Endurance World Championship and a host of other premier international and domestic racing series.
The move to the M+ package for cable viewers takes place in time for live coverage of this weekend’s FIA World Endurance Championship season finaleand December’s Race of Champions in Barbados this December.
With weekly live events plus extensive highlights programmes, magazine shows and documentaries, petrolheads have never had it so good.
“We are delighted to further expand Motors TV’s reach within the UK,” commented Head of Programming and Acquisitions Frederic Viger.
“We heard a lot of fans suggesting we joined Virgin Media’s M+ TV package and, thanks to Virgin Media, we’ve been able to make this a reality.
“It has been an important year for us in this respect, with Freeview and YouView both significantly broadening our reach. As such, moving to Virgin Media’s M+ TV package is the perfect way to end 2014.
“Our new viewers can look forward to a packed winter schedule that includes season review programming from Motors TV’s most popular series.
“That should be the perfect preparation for them to enjoy full live coverage next year.”
The move completes Motors TV’s expansion from a small niche channel, originally only available on Sky, to a channel which can be widely accessed to all regular Freeview and Youview households free of charge, the only dedicated free-to-air sports channel available on these platforms.
As well as the recently added platforms on Virgin Media (channel 545) and Freeview (channel 71/240), Motors TV will continue to be available on Sky channel 447.
Motors TV has been broadcasting in the UK since 2001, with the channel’s output this year including regular highlights from the FIA World Rally Championship, which it holds joint rights with alongside BT Sport and ITV Sport.
There is also live action from the FIA World Endurance Championship, V8 Supercars in Australia, European Formula 3, NASCAR Nationwide Series as well as FIM endurance and trials racing.
