Glorious Goodwood 2014 live on Channel 4

The scene is set for the world’s greatest horses and jockeys to do battle as they strive for top honours at the iconic five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting, live on Channel 4.

Home of Panamas, Pimm’s and panache, Goodwood always stages a feast of high-quality racing and the 2014 edition will be no different with five days of top class racing action on the famous Sussex Downs.

There are a number of top class races for punters to enjoy during the week including the Sussex Stakes, the Goodwood Cup and the Nassau Stakes among others, with no less than 12 Group races  from the most beautiful of racecourse settings.

Five miles north of Chichester in West Sussex, the course is run by the family of the Duke of Richmond, whose seat is nearby at Goodwood House.

Perched high on the South Downs in Sussex, with some of the finest views available at any track in the world, Goodwood has an unusual tight, right-handed loop with the runners starting the longer races running down the finishing straight “the wrong way” before negotiating the loop and coming back down towards the crowds.

The five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting is one of the highlights of the summer flat scene with a diverse range of races, and despite the lure of other notable Flat meetings on the calendar such as Royal Ascot, Goodwood retains its place as one of the important landmarks in the British racing calendar.

Glorious Goodwood is a quintessentially English event and Channel 4 will have live coverage of all five days of the 2014 edition for viewers throughout the week.

With Clare Balding working the Glasgow Commonwealth Games for the BBC, Nick Luck will instead lead Channel 4 Racing’s exclusive terrestrial coverage throughout the week.

All the live Channel 4 programmes from the Sussex Downs start at 1.30pm each day and feature at least four live races, including every day’s feature race.

An array of features will complement the live action during five-day festival, including in-depth interviews with jockeys William Buick and Harry Bentley, stable visits to Richard Hannon with Hannon Senior offering reflections of past Glorious Goodwood successes.

The team will also undertake an array of features that showcase the Goodwood brand from a vintage car ride to an aircraft flight.

Expert analysis and comment will be provided by Jim McGrath, Graham Cunningham and Mick Fitzgerald, race commentary comes from Simon Holt, while Tanya Stevenson will be situated in the betting ring with all the latest news and tips.

Emma Spencer and Gina Bryce will be Channel 4’s roving reporters across the grounds and in the parade ring, while fashion expert Gok Wan returns to the Channel 4 Racing fold for Glorious Goodwood, presenting the fashion and lifestyle content for the final three days, starting on Ladies Day.

Further analysis, reports and news from Goodwood, as well as live streaming of Channel 4’s live coverage, can be found via the Channel 4 horse racing website.

Dedicated horse racing channel Racing UK will broadcast every Glorious Goodwood race live across all five days.
