200 years of Lord’s: MCC v RoW live on Sky Sports

Lord’s celebrates it’s 200th birthday with a star-studded clash in front of a sold-out crowd at the Home of Cricket and Sky Sports will be screening live coverage of this special commemorative match.

A who’s who of the finest cricketers from across the globe will be in attendance to help celebrate the Bicentenary of the current Lord’s ground as an all-star MCC team, captained by Sachin Tendulkar, take on an equally legend-laden Rest of the World XI, led by Shane Warne, in celebration of 200 years of cricket at the famous venue.

With stars from around the world taking to the field in front of a full-house, the match is sure to be a special occasion.

Lord’s has staged MCC v Rest of the World matches before, indeed for the MCC’s bicentenary in 1987 the current President Mike Gatting captained the Club and hit a brilliant century against an attack featuring Imran Khan, Kapil Dev and Courtney Walsh.

The captains this time around are particularly eye-catching with the leading Test run scorer of all time in Tendulkar skippering the MCC against a Rest of the World side led by Warne, arguably the greatest bowler of all time Warne, and the star names keep on coming.

Warne is the bowler with the second most Test wickets in the history of the game, but the man leading the charge may well be turning the ball the same way but from the other end.

Sri Lankan hero Muttiah Muralitharan will be bowling in tandem with the Australian legend as the Rest of the World look to skittle out their hosts with a spin bowling masterclass.

With the bat, the Rest of the World boast the likes of wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, former India opener Virender Sehwag and ex-England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who will be keen to serve up a reminder of the talent his country is missing out on with a headline-stealing knock.

There can be no doubt that on paper that the MCC XI batting line-up remains superior, with their team containing no fewer than four of the leading Test run scorers of all time, with ‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid of India and West Indies’ most successful run-makers ever in Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

It promises to be a fantastic day of cricket, turning Lord’s into memory lane and with the likes of the former Aussie quick Brett Lee on show, their promises to be a competitive edge as well as a carnival atmosphere.

Sky Sports will be screening exclusive live coverage of this special commemorative match from Lord’s as the one of the world’s most famous sporting venue celebrates 200 years of cricket in style.
