Sky Sports announces live Capital One Cup 1st Round ties

Sky cameras will then capture the action between Coventry City and Cardiff City, on Wednesday, August 13, with both ties set to kick-off at 7.45pm. 

For Carlisle, it will be the second successive season in which they have hosted Sky Bet Championship opposition in Round 1.

Twelve months ago, they overcame Blackburn Rovers 4-3 on penalties following a 3-3 extra-time draw, before losing to Leicester City in Round 2.

Derby were also dumped out of last season’s competition by the Foxes, losing 2-1 at the King Power Stadium in Round 3. 

Coventry have been drawn at home in Round 1 for the first time in five seasons, during which time they’ve exited the Cup in their first match four times, while on 2012/13 they made it to the Round 3.

They’ll face a Cardiff team who last year entered the Capital One Cup in Round 2 when they beat Accrington Stanley.

Their best-ever finish came in 2011/12, when they made it all the way to the Wembley final and where beaten on penalties to Liverpool.

All four sides will have aspirations to go deep into this season’s competition, which was won in 2014 by Manchester City after they beat Sunderland in the final at Wembley.

Elsewhere, the pick of the non-televised first round ties see Bolton Wanderers host Bury in a Greater Manchester derby, while Milton Keynes Dons are to play AFC Wimbledon for the second ever meeting between the two clubs.

The announcement of Sky’s live League Cup first round comes on the day that the broadcaster also announced its opening four televised matches in the Sky Bet Football League, to be shown on August 8-10, with more TV games to be confirmed in due course.

Sky Sports will again screen 15 matches from this season’s Capital One Cup, including both legs of each semi-final and the final exclusively live, while terrestrial highlights of every round will be shown on BBC One.
