England v Sri Lanka: 2014 series live on Sky Sports

A new era dawns for English cricket this summer and it starts with a home series against Sri Lanka and Sky Sports will be able to watch every moment live.

Peter Moores has taken the mantle of England coach from Andy Flower and his first challenge comes in the form of a T20, five ODIs and two Test matches against the recently crowned Twenty20 world champions.

Every ball from the entire series will be broadcast live and in high-definition on Sky Sports, while Channel 5 will again screen free-to-air highlights of all the action throughout the summer.

Touring England for the first time since 2011, the visitors’ tour commences on Tuesday May 20 with the T20 international clash at the Kia Oval.

The tourists find themselves in a similar situation as Paul Farbrace would have been in charge for the series, but he resigned his post as Sri Lanka coach and will be Moores’ assistant when they face his former employers.

England have slipped down the world rankings in all forms of the game, after a miserable winter which included an Ashes whitewash and a disappointing early exit from the ICC World T20.

After a catastrophic winter, both in Australia and later at the ICC world Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh, England have some rebuilding work to do.

With the departure of Kevin Pietersen, one batting place is clearly up for grabs, but new coach Peter Moores, himself a controversial appointment in the light of his previous tenure in the role, will doubtless be scrutinising everyone’s position.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, won the short-form tournament in Bangladesh and travel to England to play one T20 international before playing five one-day internationals, and finally a two-Test series.

They also have a new-look coaching team after former head coach Paul Farbrace quit his role to join up with Moores and England, with former captain Marvan Attapatu taking over the reins.

The team arrive fresh from their triumph in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament, although they managed to lose to England during the group stage.

With the ICC World Cup less than 12 months away England’s players will be keen to impress in the ODI series, while there is pride at stake for the Test squad as they look to shrug off the 5-0 Ashes defeat in Australia.

Sky Sports will provide exclusive live coverage of England’s series against Sri Lanka on TV, mobile and tablet devices, kicking off another busy summer of international cricket.

There will be live coverage of the T20 and five one-day internationals, which begin the series, before attention turns to the five-day game in June, with both Tests also exclusively live. 

David Gower introduces live coverage of each day’s play during the test and one-day series, with Ian Ward presenting the T20 international.

Expert commentary, analysis and opinion will be provided throughout the series by Sir Ian Botham, Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, David Lloyd, Andrew Strauss and Michael Holding, as well as former Sri Lankan batsman Russel Arnold, while reports and interviews come from Ian Ward.

Extended highlights will be broadcast each evening at various times across the Sky Sports network, with the first showing usually at 8.00pm.

Channel 5 will screen daily free-to-air highlights of all England matches throughout the summer, starting in May/June as they take on Sri Lanka.

Mark Nicholas presents every programme on Channel 5 and Channel 5 HD, with commentary coming from the regular team of that includes former England captain Michael Vaughan, ‘The Analyst’ Simon Hughes and the legendary Geoffrey Boycott.

Each one-hour highlights show during the test series, one-dayers and T20 internationals will be shown in a prime-time slot at 7.00pm every night, except for day-night games where highlights will start at approximately 12midnight.

Channel 5’s coverage of cricket will be continue to be produced by Sunset+Vine, who have been responsible for English cricket’s free-to-air output since 1999.

There will be highlights programmes for all England’s domestic Test Matches, One Day Internationals and International Twenty20 Matches throughout the summer of 2014.
