World snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has signed up with Eurosport to front a new series of snooker programmes.
‘The Ronnie O’Sullivan Show’ will look at all aspects of snooker and give sports fans a unique look at the sport through the eyes of ‘The Rocket’, who is widely regarded as the most talented player to ever grace to the baize.
Featuring interviews with the stars across the game, Eurosport’s new snooker magazine series will also heavily feature insights from the man himself, including playing tips and trick-shots.
In addition to his new Eurosport show, O’Sullivan will also be writing a regular blog for the Eurosport-Yahoo! websites and mobile apps during next month’s World Championships in Sheffield.
The five-times Crucible winner will also become one of the pan-European network’s global ambassadors, teaming up to help promote its extensive snooker coverage both in the UK and worldwide.
“I am really excited by this new development in my career and the opportunity to work with Eurosport who are working hard to generate international interest in snooker,” said the 38-year-old.
“This project allows me to keep playing, but also to do something a bit different.
“Eurosport is helping to grow the game in Europe, so I can demonstrate the skills of the game and share my passion for the sport with a new audience, which is something that really motivates me.
“I also have the chance to share what it’s like to be a professional snooker player and look at some of the characters on the Tour.
“This series of programmes is something I have wanted to do for some time, Eurosport is the best place to develop the ideas and we are all really keen to get started.”
The first episode of ‘The Ronnie O’Sullivan Show’ will be broadcast on Tuesday, March 25, which coincides with the opening day of the Players Championship Grand Final in Preston, live coverage of which will be shown by British Eurosport.
In the first show, O’Sullivan will reflect on the season to date including his sensational recent win at the Masters and recount the incredible 147 maximum break he shot to win the Welsh Open (see below).
He will also look at some of the skills of playing the game in his first Masterclass, as well as talk snooker fans through the unique way he likes to play the game.
“We want to work with the best experts in every sport,” said Arnaud Simon, Eurosport Group’s TV Content Director.
“Ronnie is snooker for millions of fans across Europe, he is the player they see as the superstar of the game.
“We have worked hard to create this opportunity with him to produce an exclusive series of programmes for our passionate and increasingly knowledgeable snooker audience.”
British Eurosport is the home of televised snooker with almost every major TV event shown live on the network.
This includes the World Championship, Masters and UK Championship, all shared with BBC, plus numerous exclusively live overseas events such as the German Masters, Haikou World Open, Shanghai Masters and PTC events.
