Sky Sports renews LPGA Tour women’s golf deal

Sky Sports will continue to showcase the best tournaments in women’s golf for at least a further two years after agreeing a deal with the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

The new agreement will offer Sky Sports viewers more live coverage of women’s golf from the United States than ever before, including the three women’s Majors played in the US as well as at least four LPGA Tour events each summer.

The world’s top female golfers such as Inbee Park, Suzann Pettersen, Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer and Charley Hull all competing for glory in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Wegmans LPGA Championship and Evian Championship. 

Other LPGA Tour events due to be shown live include the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, Kingsmill Championship, Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, CME Group Tour Championship and the HSBC Women’s Champions.

Updates on other LPGA events from the United States and around the world will also feature regularly on Sky Sports News.

The deal strengthens Sky’s unrivalled position as the place for live golf, including three of the four men’s Majors – The Masters, US Open and US PGA Championship – alongosde weekly European Tour and PGA Tour events, plus World Golf Championship tournaments and the Ryder Cup.

British golfer and Solheim Cup star Charley Hull said: “It’s great news that Sky Sports is showing more women’s golf.

“I’m really looking forward to playing in more LPGA events and Majors too, so it’s good to know that my friends and family at home can tune in and follow my progress.”

LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan said: “Over the past 5-10 years, the LPGA has seen its popularity grow around the world at a rate that few could have predicted.

“The secret to the LPGA’s success is that the absolute best players in the world come from all over the world to compete on this Tour.

“With the expansion of our player base, has been the expansion of television coverage – and we now average nearly 150 countries watching the LPGA per week.

“I have consistently heard from fans in the UK about their desire to see more LPGA coverage on television and this new deal with Sky Sports helps to deliver that.”

Alongside golf, Sky Sports offers an unrivalled choice of live women’s sport with a year-round schedule offering live cricket, netball, rugby, tennis and athletics.

In 2013, women’s sport was scheduled on over 200 days on Sky Sports, a significant increase on previous years and following on from the huge surge of interest in women’s events following London 2012.

Fans can also catch the latest women’s news, views and analysis on Sky Sports News throughout the week, including Sportswomen, the weekly women’s sport show every Tuesday hosted by Hayley McQueen.

The new LPGA Tour golf agreement follows other recent announcements made by Sky Sports, including a new long-term deal with the men’s PGA Tour in the United States, plus IPL cricket, British & Irish Lions and Super League.
