FA Cup 2013/14: 6th Round live on ITV & BT Sport

The complete TV line-up for the Sixth Round of this season’s FA Cup has been announced and both ITV and BT Sport will screen two live quarter-finals a piece over the weekend on March 8-9.

ITV has chosen to screen the clash between Arsenal and Everton as its first pick tie on Saturday, March 8, with kick-off at 12.45pm.

The Gunners are chasing their first piece of silverware since 2005 and will be buoyed by the thrilling victory over Liverpool in the last round.

Everton, who were too strong for Swansea in our live match on Sunday, will fancy their chances after impressing at the Emirates when these two sides met in the Premier League.

The second live quarter final chosen by ITV follows a day later as Hull City take on Sunderland at the KC Stadium on Sunday, March 9.

Gus Poyet’s Sunderland are enjoying an excellent run in England’s knockout competitions, and they’ve already booked a place in the League Cup final against Manchester City, which takes place the week before this tie.

Steve Bruce’s Hull, meanwhile, beat Brighton in a competitive replay last night to book a home tie against the Black Cats.

BT Sport will broadcast the FA Cup quarter-final clash between Manchester City and Wigan Athletic – a repeat of last year’s final – on Sunday, March 9.

Championship side Wigan stunned City 1-0 in last season’s Wembley showpiece, one of the tournament’s greatest ever shocks.

Now managed by Uwe Rosler, the former Manchester City striker, they will again by huge underdogs against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who beat Chelsea in the last round.

Completing the line-up on BT Sport will be Sheffield United’s home tie against Charlton Athletic on Sunday lunchtime.

This was the fourth and final Sixth Round tie to be announced for live TV coverage, but there are now small changes to the other two ties scheduled for the same day.

Hull City v Sunderland will now kick off at 2.00pm with the Semi-Final draw following at around 4.00pm, while Manchester City v Wigan Athletic will now move back by five minutes to 4.05pm.

ITV Sport will broadcast the first and fourth pick of live FA Cup ties from rounds three to five, then first and third choices from rounds six to the quarter-finals, plus the first choice semi-final tie at Wembley, as well as comprehensive highlights every weekend during the competition.

New FA Cup rights holders BT Sport will screen the 2nd and 3rd pick choices from rounds three to five, 2nd/4th/5th picks from rounds six to the quarter-finals, plus a fifth choice match from rounds three to five.

The first pick of the replays during this phase of the competition will be shown on ITV, while additional replays will be broadcast by BT Sport.

Both channels will share live coverage of the 2014 FA Cup Final at Wembley on Saturday, May 17.

This will be the last season in which ITV will screen live FA Cup games for at least the next four years after the BBC regained terrestrial TV rights to the competition from 2014 to 2018.

Arsenal’s home clash with Everton on Saturday lunchtime leads ITV’s live coverage of FA Cup Sixth Round weekend.

Arsene Wenger’s side saw off Merseyside opposition in the Fifth Round defeating Liverpool 2-1 thanks to goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski.

Meanwhile, Everton beat Swansea City 3-1 at Goodison Park on the same afternoon.

A debut goal from Lacina Traore sent the Toffees in front inside three minutes before Jonathan de Guzman’s header put the visitors on level terms.

Gary Naismith capitalised on a Neil Taylor back pass to give Everton a second half lead and Leighton Baines sealed it for Roberto Martinez’s side with a penalty on 71 minutes.

Adrian Chiles presents ITV’s live coverage from the Emirates alongside studio guests Roy Keane, Lee Dixon and Peter Reid, and commentary comes from Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend.

Then on Sunday, ITV viewers will see Steve Bruce reunited with Sunderland when Hull City host the Black Cats, kicking off at 2.00pm.

Bruce departed the Stadium of Light in 2011 after a two year spell in charge at the Premier League club.

His Hull City side saw off Brighton & Hove Albion by 2-1 in a Fifth Round replay at the KC Stadium thanks to first half goals from Curtis Davies and Robert Koren.

Leonardo Ulloa pulled one back for the Seagulls with just over 20 minutes remaining but it wasn’t enough for the Championship side.

Brighton were just five minutes away from the last eight in the original tie before Yannick Sagbo’s close range strike on the South Coast forced a replay.

Victory for Sunderland in the quarter final will mean yet another trip to Wembley Stadium for Gus Poyet’s charges.

Alongside Adrian Chiles in the studio will be Roy Keane and Lee Dixon, while commentary comes from Sam Matterface and Clarke Carlisle.

The draw for the FA Cup semi-finals will also be broadcast live on ITV immediately after the Hull City v Sunderland tie, presented by Mark Pougatch from Wembley Stadium.

ITV will also screen evening highlights shows featuring all the goals from the Sixth Round ties played over the weekend, with Saturday’s show hosted by Adrian Chiles, while Jacqui Oatley presents the best of the action from Sunday’s three ties alongside Gordon Strachan.

The rerun of last season’s FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Wigan Athletic will feature as part of BT Sport’s live Sixth Round coverage.

The Latics, the Cup’s defending champions, will be without their FA Cup talisman Ben Watson who broke his leg against Barnsley on Tuesday.

Watson scored the last minute winner at Wembley last year and also netted against Crystal Palace and Cardiff City in this season’s competition.

The tie will give Wigan boss Uwe Rosler a return to the blue side of Manchester where he made over 150 appearances for the then Maine Road club in the mid-Nineties.

Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Fifth Round thanks to goals in each half from Stevan Jovetic and Samir Nasri.

Wigan have already knocked out two Barclays Premier League sides en route to the last eight in the form of Crystal Palace and Cardiff City.

As a result they will enter their re-match with City on an 11-game unbeaten run in the competition.

Before the clash at the Etihad, the all-Football League tie between Sheffield United and Charlton Athletic will also be televised by BT Sport, kicking off at 12noon.

Chris Powell’s Charlton side upset the apple cart with a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, dashing local hopes of a Steel City derby in the Sixth Round.

The Blades have already seen off Aston Villa, Fulham and Nottingham Forest in this season’s competition and are hunting down their first FA Cup Semi-Final in over a decade, when they were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Old Trafford in 2003.

BT Sport’s live FA Cup coverage will be presented by Jake Humphrey alongside regular pundits David Ginola, Owen Hargreaves, David James and Steve McManaman.

Commentary duties across all three ties will be shared by Ian Darke, Darren Fletcher, Michael Owen and Gary Pallister.
