ITV4 will screen a new documentary film which chronicles the thrills and spills of the annual Manx Grand Prix on February 5.

Entitled Grand Prix Racer, the production focuses on the eventual goings on at both the 2012 and 2011 editions of the event on the Isle of Man.

Produced by island-based company Greenlight Television, it is hoped that the broadcast will raise the profile of the event, which remains one of the most popular events of its kind in the world.

The Manx Grand Prix is held on the iconic Isle of Man TT ‘Mountain Circuit‘ every year for a two-week period usually spanning the end of August and early September.

The ‘MGP’, or ‘Manx’ as it is more commonly known, is considered to be the amateur riders’ alternative to the world-famous Isle of Man TT Races, which are held in May and June.

Programme producer Rob Hurdman said: “We set out to capture the spirit of the Manx through the eyes of a few of its many competitors and we hope that this film will give viewers the chance to share the emotions and experiences of this unique event.”

“The documentary will provide an interesting and exciting insight into the Manx Grand Prix and the role it plays in real road racing,” he said.

Manx Motor Cycle Club Chairman, Harvey Garton commented: “Grand Prix Racer gives a great insight for both Newcomers planning to participate in the Manx Grand Prix and for the general public to see how much commitment riders give to the challenge of the Mountain Circuit.

“Greenlight Television has produced this excellent film which successfully draws in the viewer so they feel part of an exclusive racing experience.

“We think the documentary on ITV4 will reach a new audience interested in competing in and visiting the Manx Grand Prix.

“We are truly delighted that Greenlight has assisted us in showcasing our impressive event.”

An extended version of the ITV4 documentary will be available to buy on DVD from March 4.
