The Super League Show, terrestrial television’s only weekly rugby league programme, returns to BBC TV for its fourteenth season on Monday, February 4.
On air throughout the regular season, the programme will feature highlights and interviews from the weekend’s Super League fixtures every Monday night on BBC One in the North of England at 11.35pm.
It will also feature the game’s top players, plus comment on the week’s topical issues, both on and off the pitch, from our regular studio pundits.
The programme will also continue to be repeated across the UK on BBC Two but in a new daytime slot of 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoons, moving from its former late-night graveyard slot.
With the Rugby League World Cup due in this country in the Autumn, 2013 is a big year for the sport and the programme will feature all the build-up to the tournament during the series.
Made at the BBC’s Leeds-based studios, home city of current Super League champions the Leeds Rhinos, the Super League Show is produced by award-winning independent production company PDI Media.
Tanya Arnold (pictured) returns to host the programme for her second season in the role with Dave Woods providing commentary on the stand-out fixtures each week.
Regular studio guests will include Brian Noble, Robbie Hunter-Paul, Ian Millward plus topical personalities from the sport.
Tanya said: “We’ll combine the highlights of all the key matches in Super League with the personalities in the game.
“Plus we will reflect the key issues in what is a massive year for rugby league as they build for the World Cup coming to this country in the Autumn.”
Charles Runcie, Head of Sport for BBC English Regions, is excited by the programme and its new repeat slot: “It’s fantastic news that daytime viewers across the UK can see the Super League Show for the first time.
“We aim to showcase all that is great in the sport, with the best of the weekend action and well-informed analysis.”
Craig South is Executive Producer at PDI Media: “We will continue to provide a mix of action, analysis and features within the show with the aim of raising the profile of Super League’s finest players and focus attention on the upcoming World Cup in what promises to be an exciting year for rugby league.”
The Super League Show will be broadcast every Monday night throughout the regular season at 11.35pm on BBC One in North East & Cumbria, North West, Yorks & Lincs and Yorkshire regions.
This year the programme will be repeated across the UK on BBC Two at 1.30pm on Tuesdays, and is also available for seven days after transmission on the BBC iPlayer, and via bbc.co.uk/rugbyleague.
The programme compliments the BBC’s live coverage of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup, with live games from the fourth round stage onwards to the showpiece Wembley final in August.
TV rights for this autumn’s Rugby League World Cup in England and Wales will be announced in due course, with Sky Sports and the BBC expected to share coverage of the event.
