BT Sport confirms opening live Betfred Cup games

BT Sport has revealed details of its first live games from new-look Betfred Scottish League Cup which kicks off with the first round group stage in mid-July.

There are 80 group stage matches taking place across 17 days in July, starting on Friday, July 15, and BT Sport will show five from the first selection, all on BT Sport 1.

Eight group winners and four best runners-up will progress to the second round phase, when they are joined by the four UEFA qualifying clubs, including Ladbrokes Premiership champions Celtic, and the competition reverts to knockout format.

The tournament concludes with the Betfred Cup Final at Hampden Park on Sunday, November 27, exclusively live on BT Sport.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “BT Sport’s initial broadcast selections heightens the anticipation for the competition’s big kick-off in mid-July.

“There are some really cracking matches in prospect to be enjoyed by supporters of the 40 clubs involved and by those watching on BT Sport from across Scotland and beyond.”

BT Sport won the rights to broadcast the Scottish League Cup in a four-year £7.5m deal, struck last December with the SPFL, more than double the previous contract with BBC Scotland.
