Chinese Grand Prix 2014 live on Sky Sports F1

Following a thrilling Bahrain Grand Prix two weeks ago, Formula 1’s global tour lands in China for the fourth round of the 2014 season, exclusively live on Sky Sports F1.

This will be the 11th running of the Chinese Grand Prix, the race having joined the Formula One calendar ten years ago.

Six of the this year’s field have won in Shanghai, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s 2013 winner Fernando Alonso looking to win the race for the third time.

Located in the Jiading district of one of China’s most vibrant cities, the Shanghai International Circuit presents a markedly different set of challenges to those offered up in Bahrain.

Gone is the high heat and the point and squirt nature of the Sakhir layout, instead, Shanghai offers up cooler climes, two long straights and a tough mix of slow, medium and high-speed corners, all of which test a team’s ability to find a good balance for their cars.

It is a layout that in the past has also given tyres a good workout to with Tyre manufacturer Pirelli bringing its Medium and Soft compounds to Shanghai, presenting teams with an interesting choice on race strategies.

The race in Bahrain was again dominated by the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Rosberg might have lost out in the pair’s exciting battle to the flag but the German still leads the Drivers’ World Championship and will be undoubtedly seeking revenge, and a repeat of his maiden F1 win here in China in 2012.

Hamilton, meanwhile will be looking for a first-ever hat-trick of wins in his eight-year Formula 1 career.

In the teams’ battle, Mercedes lead the way from Force India, whose excellent results from the past two races have catapulted them into previously unknown territory.

They’ll surely be looking to stage a Shanghai surprise this weekend to widen the gap between them and third-placed McLaren to more than the single point that currently separates the Mercedes-powered outfits.

 FORMULA 1 2014 ON SKY SPORTS F1 HD

The 65th Formula 1 season continues at the Shanghai International Circuit with the Chinese Grand Prix and Sky Sports F1 is the only place to see all the action as it happens.

The race will be shown exclusively live and uninterrupted, along with all the practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday, plus numerous replays giving fans the chance to catch up on the early-morning action.

Simon Lazenby will anchor Sky Sports F1’s live coverage throughout the weekend where he will be joined by regulars Martin Brundle and Johnny Herbert.

Ted Kravitz and Rachel Brookes will provide the latest news and reports and from the pit lane, while commentary on all sessions comes from David Croft.

Martin Brundle will join Croft in the commentary box for both qualifying and the race, with Bruno Senna making his second appearance for Sky in 2014 calling the practice sessions, as well as providing his unique insights via the Sky Pad during the weekend.

During the race, a host of interactive additions, including on-board cameras, pit-lane feeds, the latest race stats and much more available via the red button and the Sky Sports for iPad app.

 FORMULA 1 2014 ON BBC SPORT

The BBC will broadcast free-to-air TV highlights of the 2014 Chinese Grand Prix from Shanghai.

Suzi Perry presents all the action from China alongside David Coulthard, who will provide his analysis in the pits and paddock, plus there will be further insights from Allan McNish.

Extended highlights of both qualifying and the race will be shown in the afternoon on BBC One over the weekend.

The qualifying session will be broadcast on BBC One on Saturday lunchtime at 1.15pm, with comprehensive two-hour race highlights show the following day at 2.30pm on the same channel.

Commentary on qualifying and the race comes from Ben Edwards and David Coulthard, with Tom Clarkson providing regular updates from the pit-lane while Lee McKenzie is on hand to conduct interviews with the drivers and team personnel.

McKenzie will also host Inside F1 on BBC News Channel on Friday and Saturday evenings, which will preview the weekend’s action.

The BBC Sport website will have live streaming of BBC TV’s broadcasts, as well as additional video content including highlights of practice sessions, qualifying and the race, plus interviews and analysis.

All of the BBC’s TV coverage will be available to view shortly after transmission on BBC iPlayer.

BBC Radio 5 Live will also have live audio commentary of every on-track session from Shanghai with Jack Nicholls and Jennie Gow.
