
Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods headline a star-studded eight-man field at the inaugural Turkish Airlines World Golf Final.
This brand new four-day invitational event begins on Tuesday, October 8, and reaches its climax on Friday, October 11, when the two finalists will play for a first prize of $1.5million.
Sky Sports will have full coverage of all four days of the tournament which takes place at the Antalya Golf Club in Belek, Turkey.
Joining McIlroy and Woods, the top two players in the world rankings, are England’s Lee Westwood and Justin Rose, South African Charl Schwartzel and Americans Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan.
The format is medal matchplay, which consists of head-to-head matches where the lowest strokeplay score over 18 holes wins, and will feature two groups of four.
Each golfer will play three matches in the group stages, with the winners and runners up from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The winner of Group A will play the runner up of Group B and vice versa.
At stake is a total purse of $5.2million – a $1.5million first prize, $1million for the runner up, $600,000 each for third and fourth place, $450,000 for fifth and sixth and $300,000 for seventh and eighth.
The tournament will be held at Antalya Golf Club, designed by David Jones and the European Golf Design in the late 1990s, is situated along Turkey’s picturesque south-west Mediterranean coast.
All the action from the first Turkish Airlines World Golf Final will be broadcast on Sky Sports, with David Livingstone hosting daily live coverage.
Studio analysis comes from Richard Boxall, and commentary will be provided by Ewen Murray and Wayne Riley.
A highlights programme rounding up each day’s action will be shown every evening during the tournament.
UPDATE: A heavy thunderstorm at the Antalya Golf Club on Wednesday means the final round of pool matches, originally scheduled for the afternoon, have been put back until Thursday morning.
Sky Sports will broadcast live coverage of the final round robin matches, from 7am on Thursday as scheduled.
But due to clashes with live European Tour coverage the World Golf Final semi-finals will not be shown live, however the evening highlights programme at 7.30pm on Sky Sports 3 will feature the best action from these matches.
