Olympic cycling stars will appear in action on BT Sport for the first time after the channel secured the rights to broadcast the 2013-14 Revolution track cycling series.
This year’s series will showcase some of the biggest names in British cycling, as well as top international riders, over five indoor track cycling meets.
It is the first time that cycling has featured on BT Sport since the channel’s launch in August 2013. The previous two series of Revolution were broadcast on ITV4.
In a similar arrangement to ITV4’s previous coverage of the series, BT Sport will screen hour-long highlights of each five rounds, starting with the best of the action from the curtain-raiser at the National Cycling Centre, which takes place this weekend (October 26).
Fans will get the chance to see the likes of double Olympic champions Laura Trott and Jason Kenny take to the track when highlights of round one are broadcast on BT Sport 2 at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 29.
Other big names competing in Manchester this weekend include Ed Clancy, Dani King and Jo Rowsell – all Olympic gold-medal winners at last summer’s London 2012 Olympic Games.
After the Manchester round, the series then travels to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow on November 30 following a successful debut event there last season, with highlights to be broadcast on BT Sport on Tuesday, December 3, before returning to Manchester in the New Year.
The best of rounds three or four will be shown on Tuesday, January 7, and Tuesday, February 4, before the series reaches its conclusion with a fifth round, added to the calendar for the first time this year.
The finale, a double bill of racing set over two days on March 14 and 15, will be staged at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London’s Olympic Park, marking the first elite cycling event to be held at the venue since the 2012 Games.
Each Revolution Cycling series event combines three elements – Elite Championship, UCI-sanctioned competition, and Future Stars (Under-16s).
The Elite Championship remains the centrepiece of each round as defending champions Rapha Condor JLT, spearheaded by Clancy, look to hold onto their title.
Some of Britain’s biggest sprint and endurance cycling stars have competed in the Revolution series since its launch in 2003, including Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and Sir Bradley Wiggins.
