Eurosport has renewed its long-standing partnership with FIFA to continue broadcasting live coverage of nine major international competitions across 2015 and 2016.
The new two-year rights deal with world football’s governing body, covering its UK and other major pan-European territories, includes live rights to screen every match from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next summer.
It also includes full rights to the men’s and women’s FIFA under-17 and under-20 World Cups, as well as the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, FIFA Futsal World Cup and Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup.
All these tournaments will receive live coverage, as well as regular highlights and support programming, on British Eurosport and British Eurosport 2.
The deal confirms the pan-European broadcaster as one of the leading channel in Europe for women’s football, youth football and futsal, with Eurosport also covering regular matches from the UEFA Women’s Champions League, as well as several youth and futsal tournaments throughout the season.
The FIFA competitions deal enhances British Eurosport’s live football offering, which already features the best competitions at European level with the annual UEFA European U-17 and U-19 Championships for both men and women, 2016 UEFA European Futsal Championships and 2017 UEFA Women’s European Championships.
British Eurosport will screen every match from the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next summer alongside the BBC, who will also be showing every game from the competition in a first for UK terrestrial television.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 draw, broadcast live on British Eurosport 2 on Saturday, December 6, decided the six groups the 24 teams will compete in next June.
The qualified teams include former world champions Germany, United States, Norway and current title holders Japan, as well as, France, Sweden, England, Brazil and China.
The most highly-anticipated clash of the first round is likely to be in Group D between the USA and Sweden, who finished third at the 2011 World Cup, while France, serious challengers for the title, will face Mark Sampson’s England side in Group F.
Eurosport has broadcast every FIFA Women’s World Cup since 2003 and attracted record audiences in 2011 when the tournament was watched by over 57m different European viewers across its two channels over the continent.
