Live sport might still be on hold but the BBC will continue to broadcast a raft of special football programmes this weekend (2-3 May) in the continued absence of the professional game due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This includes the latest Match of the Day’s Top 10 Podcast, in MOTD’s traditional Saturday night slot on BBC One, where Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright this week discuss the ten best Premier Legue players outside of the ‘big six’ Premier League clubs.
Following that will be another edition of Match of Their Day, where former Arsenal defender turned BBC pundit Martin Keown chooses three matches from the archives and reveal some of the stories behind each game.
Another special edition of Football Focus will be shown on Saturday lunchtime, presented by Dan Walker from his home.
This Saturday’s World Cup Rewind episode on BBC One features highlights of England v Argentina at the 1998 World Cup in France and West Germany v France in the 1982 semi-final.
Then on Sunday afternoon there will be a full replay of the dramatic group stage encounter from the 2002 World Cup between England and Argentina via the Red Button and on the BBC Sport website.
BBC Scotland will deliver more classic action from the Sportscene archives, featuring Rangers and Aberdeen’s final-day title showdown in 1991 and a 12-goal thriller between Motherwell and Hibernian in 2010, while BBC Alba will show a review of the 2019 Scottish Women’s Premier League season.
BBC Wales will screen a full replay of Wales’ clash against England at Wrexham’s Racecourse ground from 1984, as part of its series of classic Welsh sporting action.
Full details and broadcast times for BBC TV’s football programming over the weekend of 1-3 May can be found below.
All programmes will be available to watch live and on-demand on the BBC iPlayer.

WORLD CUP REWIND

Guy Mowbray looks back at some of the most exciting matches in World Cup history. England took on Argentina at the 1998 World Cup in France with a spot in the quarter-finals at stake. What followed was a see-sawing encounter that featured a red card, a wonder goal and a nailbiting penalty shoot-out.
Penalties also decided West Germany’s meeting with France at the 1982 tournament, but this semi-final showdown had so much more than the shoot-out that ultimately decided it – French captain Michel Platini has since described the topsy-turvy encounter as his ‘most beautiful game’.
