The Premier League has announced that it has scrapped its controversial pay-per-view experiment and all live TV matches will now be broadcast at no extra cost across Sky Sports, BT Sport, Prime Video and the BBC from 21 November and throughout the festive period.
In a similar arrangement prior to the pay-per-view games being introduced, all four Premier League broadcasters in the UK will share live coverage each matchweek, with matches on Sky and BT available at no extra cost to sports package subscribers.
In total, 13 of the 20 newly confirmed live matches for the rest of November, covering matchweeks 9 and 10, will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, while five games will be shown on BT Sport, and Prime Video and the BBC will each carry one live match.
The BBC will screen the match between Fulham and Everton on Sunday, 22 November, bringing the league back to free-to-air viewers again as happened during Project Restart over the summer and when the current season began in September.
The pay-per-view model was introduced for the games which followed the international break in October, with fans needing to pay £14.95 to watch selected matches, which were not chosen for regular live TV coverage, via Sky and BT’s Box Office service.
The move drew criticism from supporters and viewers, who in many cases opted to give the money to charitable causes such as food banks instead.
The Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters said last month the £14.95 price was “indefensible”, while BT also defended the move, saying it was only covering its own costs in screening the matches.
Commenting on its change of policy for the remainder of the calendar year, the Premier League said in a statement:
“There is a full schedule of Premier League games over the festive period and clubs are committed to an accessible solution for fans.
“These plans have been made with the co-operation of our broadcast partners, working with us to deliver these additional matches while stadiums are missing the supporters who are such an integral part of the game.
“The agreement will be reviewed in the new year following consultation with clubs, broadcast partners and in line with any decisions made by Government regarding the return of spectators to stadiums.
“The Premier League and our clubs remain committed to the safe return of fans as soon as possible.”

Live TV match selections for December and January will be confirmed in due course, though two full sets of fixtures will be broadcast exclusively live on Prime Video on 15-16 December and 28 December, as part of its existing deal with the Premier League.
Sky Sports says it expects to broadcast between 50 and 60 exclusively live matches up to 21 January, which equates to almost a game every day for throughout this period for Sky Sports subscribers.
