S4C has announced that it has secured a deal to screen live coverage of every Wales match in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup.
Fans will be able to watch Wales’s three pool matches against Ireland, Georgia and England, and their fourth game on the finals weekend, live on the Welsh language free-to-air channel, after the broadcaster reached an agreement with Six Nations Rugby Ltd.
The inaugural eight-team tournament gets underway on Friday, 13 November, when Ireland host Wales at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin, a match which will also be broadcast live on Channel 4.
S4C’s live coverage will be led by the regular Clwb Rygbi team, including presenters Gareth Rhys Owen and Catrin Heledd.
Commenting on the deal, Sue Butler, S4C sports commissioner, said:
“We are delighted that viewers can follow Wales in this exciting new competition live on S4C. As a longstanding broadcast partner of the WRU, this agreement reaffirms S4C’s commitment to providing high-quality rugby coverage in the Welsh language for all Welsh rugby fans.”
S4C’s Welsh language coverage will be in addition to Prime Video and Channel 4’s shared live coverage of the tournament.
In total, 14 of the 16 Autumn Nations Cup matches will be broadcast live on Prime Video, 13 of them exclusively, whilst Channel 4 will show all three of Ireland’s pool matches.
Craig Maxwell, WRU Commerical Director, added:
“S4C continue to be a great supporter of Welsh rugby. This deal is great for fans as it means they can watch our exciting Autumn Nations cup fixtures in the Welsh language.”
In addition to live Autumn Nations Cup matches, S4C will also have live coverage of the friendly match between France and Wales on Saturday, 24 October, as well as Wales’s 2020 Guinness Six Nations finale against Scotland, on Saturday, 31 October.
