Sky Sports to relaunch on July 18 with new channel line-up

Sky Sports has announced that it will relaunch its portfolio of channels on 18 July in a long-awaited shake-up of the pay-TV giant’s offering, which includes a new pricing structure and a fresh on-air look.

The network’s traditional line-up numbered channels will be replaced by a portfolio of 10 sports channels, including two dedicated networks for football, as well as new cricket and golf channel, in addition to the existing Sky Sports F1 channel.

Two further channels – Sky Sports Action and Sky Sports Arena – will showcase the rest of Sky’s live sports coverage, including rugby union, rugby league, boxing, netball, darts, NFL, tennis, WWE and GAA.

Bringing Sky’s biggest events across all sports together will be the new Sky Sports Main Event channel, which will showcase the best of live action across all sports, while Sky Sports News and Sky Sports Mix remain part of the channel line-up and available to all Sky TV customers.

Alongside one the biggest revamps in the network’s 26-year history, Sky Sports has also unveiled a new pricing structure which will allow Sky TV sports customers for the first time to select which sports channels they want to subscribe to.

The full package of ten channels will be available at the same price for Sky TV customers – £27.50 per month – which will remain frozen for 12 months. Existing customers will receive the new Sky Sports package automatically and the new channels will replace the existing line-up.

Sky Sports will also offer new packages for fans not looking for the full breadth of sports, but are interested in specific sports, with a one channel pack to be made available for just £18 per month, two for £22 and three for £26.

Sky say the new line-up is “designed to grow this customer base and offers flexibility” for new and existing Sky TV sports subscribers.

In addition, Sky Sports will also undergo a major on-air rebrand with a new logo and a host of new programming to complement its live coverage on its new dedicated range of sports channels.

These will include a nightly Premier League debate show on its new Premier League channel, masterclasses and coaching clinics from Sky Sports analysts Shane Warne, Butch Harmon and Rob Key, live golf previews ahead of selected European and US events and a host of new documentaries.

Sky Sports will also streamline its online and digital offerings, with its full range of digital platforms brought together onto one Sky Sports app, which will be relaunched in August.

Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports said:

“We’re dedicating channels to some of our biggest sports, launching a new way to watch the best live action and offering even better digital products too.

Sky Sports is giving customers even more choice and channels at the same price for another 12 months, while opening up new ways for sports fans to join. If you love Premier League, you can enjoy it for as little as 60p a day or you can have the full Sky Sports package for less than £1.”

Stephen van Rooyen, Sky UK and Ireland Chief Executive added:

“Sport has been a major part of Sky for 26 years and we’re improving our service even further, super-serving existing customers and providing flexibility to a whole new generation of sports fans. We are making sport more accessible and offering even more choice; all part of our continued investment in offering Sky customers an unrivalled service.”
