After a hectic weekend of FA Cup Third Round action, attention now turns to the Fourth Round Draw on Monday, January 5, live on BBC One.
Sheffield United and Rochdale, who caused two of the most notable upsets in the third round, will find out their next opponents when the draw for the fourth round is made, with holders Arsenal and fellow Premier League giants Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City also firmly in the mix.
The draw will be held before League Two AFC Wimbledon’s third-round clash against Liverpool, a game which is a repeat of the 1988 FA Cup final when the original Wimbledon FC beat the Reds 1-0.
With the return of the world’s oldest domestic cup competition to BBC TV screens this season, the corporation has put in its mark by revamping TV coverage of the FA Cup, including the return of the draw to Mondays in a new primetime slot.
Each of the draws will be staged at a different footballing location throughout the competition, all of which will be hosted by BBC Match of the Day 2 presenter Mark Chapman in front of a live audience.
The draw for the fourth round proper will be staged at Kingsmeadow Stadium, home of AFC Wimbledon, ahead of the club’s BBC-televised third round tie against Liverpool on Monday, January 5.
The numbers will be drawn by Wimbledon’s 1988 Cup final goalscorer Lawrie Sanchez and local hero, Kingstonian Women’s Under-18s head coach Stef Loucaides.
BBC Sport’s coverage of the draw will be shown during the build-up to the AFC Wimbledon v Liverpool match on BBC One from 7.30pm, which will feature live interviews with special guests from selected clubs who will be involved in the fourth round.
This season’s fourth round ties will be played over the weekend of January 24-25 with BBC TV screening two live ties, including first pick, while fellow FA Cup broadcaster BT Sport will also show three further live games.
The FA Cup returns to BBC television after a six-year absence and fans will be able to watch up to 16 live matches on BBC One and BBC Two throughout the competition.
Aside from the two live games on BBC TV, Saturday’s Football Focus will be broadcast live from one of the match venues, plus there will be Match of the Day highlights on both Saturday and Sunday.
A similar pattern will follow for future rounds, culminating in FA Cup final week, when a special documentary will be aired on BBC One, with the showpiece match being played at Wembley on Saturday, May 30, 2015.
The BBC has a four-year contract to screen live FA Cup games running until 2018, in partnership with BT Sport.
BT Sport will also screen live coverage of every FA Cup draw on Monday nights in its regular discussion series Football Tonight, presented by Des Kelly, with the second round Draw being simulcast from 7.30pm on Monday, January 5.
