British Eurosport has picked up the rights to broadcast exclusive live coverage of the Shenzhen Open semi-finals and final as Andy Murray chases a place in the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.
Murray will play Argentina’s Juan Monaco on Saturday, September 27, following the conclusion of the other semi-final between Tommy Robredo and Santiago Giraldo, with live coverage starting at 7.00am on British Eurosport 2 HD.
It will be the first time Murray has faced Monaco since the last 16 stage of the 2010 Valencia Open, a match that Monaco won in three sets.
Murray progressed to the Shenzhen Open semi-finals with a 6-3 7-5 win over Lukas Lacko this afternoon, while Monaco secured an impressive 7-6 6-4 victory against Richard Gasquet.
The British number one, who is looking to lift his 29th ATP title and his first of 2014, is chasing crucial ranking points as he looks to qualify for November’s lucrative ATP World Tour Finals for the top eight players, and will be looking to reach his first ATP final since winning Wimbledon in 2013.
Murray’s participation in the Chinese-based tournament marked his return to the ATP circuit for the first time since losing to Novak Djokovic at the US Open, as well as being his first public appearance since the comments he made on Twitter on the eve of the Scottish referendum.
Murray was abused on social media for tweeting his support for independence, but in a BBC interview in China, he said the UK was going to be stronger as a result of the referendum and he looked forward to competing for Great Britain for the rest of his career, but said he did not “regret giving an opinion”, though he wished he had not done it in that way.
After Shenzhen, Murray is set to play in Beijing and Shanghai, where he won the title in 2010 and 2011, before returning to Europe to contest the Paris Masters in late October.
As well as the Shenzhen Open, British Eurosport will also broadcast the ATP Malaysian Open over the weekend of September 27-28, with semi-final highlights at 11.00am on Saturday on British Eurosport 2 and live coverage of the final at 10.00am on Sunday on British Eurosport.
Live online streaming of British Eurosport’s coverage can be accessed via Eurosport Player (subscription required), plus there will also be additional reports and features via the British Eurosport website.
