Jade Etherington is poised to become Great Britain’s most decorated Winter Paralympian of all-time on day seven as she aims for yet another medal on the slopes.
Only three competitors remain in the visually impaired category, including Great Britain’s triple medallist, which means that should Etherington and guide Caroline Powell finish their second run, they are guaranteed a fourth medal at these winter Games.
This potential feat is something that no British athlete has achieved before, so Paralympic history is firmly at stake up at Rosa Khutor with Etherington currently lying in second position.
Super-G gold medalist Kelly Gallagher crashed out after a fall in the first phase, the slalom, on Tuesday.
In the sitting events, Anna Turney, currently in fifth position but almost 15 seconds off the medal pace, and Mick Brennan compete for GB with outside chances of claiming their first medals.
Paralympic history will be made on Friday as the snowboarding features for the first time in the Games as snowboard cross, which wowed fans around the world at the Winter Olympics, makes its bow.
14-year-old Australian Ben Tudhope, one of the youngest competitors in Sochi will be looking to become one of the stars in the first snowboard cross event as he goes for his country’s first medal of the Games.
However, the United States are expected to dominate the competition with Evan Strong the firm favourite having taken the men’s gold at the recent world championships in France.
In the women’s snowboard cross event, America’s Amy Purdy will battle it out for glory against the Netherlands’ Bibian Mentel-Spee.
The Dutch boarder is the current world champion, having taken gold in France back in February, but Purdy is highly fancied by many to cause an upset.
She will have her work cut out, as Mentel-Spee has beaten Purdy by between three and 10 seconds in all their previous contests.
Russia has dominated its home Games with 49 medals so far and it would be a huge surprise were they not to add to that tally in the biathlon – their strongest sport.
Alena Kaufman has picked up two golds already and Roman Petushkov has four. Both will be confident of winning their events, which in Petushkov’s case would break the Russian record for a single Winter Paralympic Games.
Also on day seven, there is also the classification games to decided fifth to eighth place in Ice Sledge Hockey at the Shayba Arena.
For the first time on British television, para-sports fans will be able to enjoy rolling live coverage of a Winter Paralympic Games and Channel 4 will be providing the most comprehensive TV output of the event in its history, with more than 50 hours of live action over the ten days of competition.

Day seven coverage begins this morning on More4 and features the final phase of the rescheduled Super-Combined event, the Super-G.
Great Britain’s Jade Etherington and her guide Caroline Powell, who have already won two silvers and a bronze, are guaranteed another medal in the Visually Impaired category as long as they negotiate the course safely.
They were one of only three pairs to complete the slalom on Tuesday, in which fellow Briton and Super-G gold medalist Kelly Gallagher crashed out.
Sit Skiers Anna Turney and Mick Brennan also stayed in contention by finishing the first stage on Tuesday.
Plus, there’s highlights of yesterday’s Ice Sledge Hockey semi-finals, featuring United States against arch rivals Canada.

Three-time Sochi medalist Jade Etherington went for Great Britain in the concluding phase of the Super-Combined event, which was delayed from Tuesday after poor weather, with hopes of securing her first gold of the Games.
There’s also live coverage of the conclusion to the men’s Super-Combined event with GB’s Mick Brennan hoping to finish strongly in the sitting category.

Today saw Great Britain’s Wheelchair Curling team complete their group games, with tough matches against the USA and China.
There was strong British interest in the Alpine Skiing, with 16-year-old James Whitley and sit-skiers Mick Brennan and Ben Sneesby competing in the Men’s Slalom events.
Plus, the ice sledge hockey semi-finals took place in the Shayba Arena.
